A tag has been placed on Category:Dem indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. DB1729talk 19:44, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Hello. I've noticed you recently made several attempts to add a name directly to a category page, e.g.[1][2]

In Wikipedia, the category must be added to the articles, not the other way around. Please see Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization#How do I add an article to a category? For newer editors, it's understandably a counter-intuitive system.

Category pages are not intended to be exhaustive lists. They are navigation aids; merely groupings of related, existing English Wikipedia pages.

To categorize an article, first make sure it actually belongs to the category. Then, go to the article and add the category at the bottom of the page. Once published (saved) the blue-linked name of the article will automatically appear on the category page. To remove an article from appearing on a category page, edit the article and remove the category.

In this case, it seems there is no WP article for the subject Dem (surname), so there is currently nothing to categorize. (See also the disambiguation page Dem) Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope this helps in your understanding of the situation.

For further detailed information, see Help:Category and Wikipedia:Categorization. Let me know if you need any assistance or have any questions. Cheers! --DB1729talk 20:02, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping. I tried my level best in order to add information but I am new to Wikipedia .please help if you can do something regarding addition of surname under the list Ramit Dem (talk) 04:12, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I realize the way categorization works here can seem very strange to a new editor. Many newer editors make the incorrect assumption that category pages are lists, and it seems this assumption can be very difficult to let go of. Categories are not lists. It's just way to group existing articles that have common defining characteristics. If there is no existing article on the subject, it doesn't appear in the category; more to the point, it can't go in the category, because the very nature of the scheme makes that impossible.
If or when the page Dem (surname) is created, only then is it possible to place the category declaration on the newly created page and then it will automatically appear back in the category page. Until then, there is nothing to do here as it is currently impossible to do what you trying to do.
Hope that's all clear enough, and sorry if it's hard to follow. DB1729talk 04:28, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank for your guidance but really disappointed from the system which is not ready to improve it's content Ramit Dem (talk) 15:15, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is intentionally designed that way to make it easier for users to find articles that actually exist.
What you are talking about is to simply add "Dem" to List of Khatri surnames, a list article (not a category) that was created, but then deleted in 2007.
By the way, my surname is unusual; it isn't included in any WP list or a category; and I don't think there anything wrong with that. DB1729talk 15:29, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
