Apparently you're Johnny-on-the-spot with new photo submissions! The whole copyright thing on Wikipedia has always been a confusing mystery to me even though I've been here a few years now, and I'm sorry if I posted this with the wrong permission. It's not the first time. I contacted the band to ask them if I could use this image, and if they would send share alike 3.0 permission, and they agreed and are doing so. Could you tell me what I should change this to so it will comply with Wikipedia guidelines then? Your help is appreciated. Thanks. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 02:53, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice! That helped quite a lot. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 03:07, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Another superb photo! Fantastic! Upsmiler (talk) 07:46, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
You just massively improved
the copyright for a picture I just posted [1] - but now having finished my dinner I am back to post a few more [2] to create a galley there and I am wondering just what you did? Of course feel free to continue mopping up after me, but I am a big boy (tall, anyway) and can clean up after myself if I understand how. So . ....... how? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 01:10, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- All these pictures were taken by me, so please tell me more about "Creative Commons free licensed". Also, where did you find the "3D to 2D" thing? I looked, but to no avail. The pictures in the gallery (well, 3 out of 4) are referred to in the article, by name, even. In any case thanks for the help. Carptrash (talk) 01:56, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the insights. Unfortunately I am an anarchist at heart, so much of this legal stuff leaves me cold. However since it would be wikipedia and not me who took the heat for a mess up I do try. And with your kind assistance, getting better. Carptrash (talk) 02:47, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- Well you were right that something was going to happen at Abraham Lincoln: The Hoosier Youth, in regard to the detail images. First I was given 7 days to explain myself and then after 3 days they were gone. On well, easy come, easy go. Thanks you for your input, advise and support. Hi, I was looking over logs of files on my watchlist after some inactivity and noticed that this image was deleted following a reduce request you added a couple of months back. There's been a longstanding precedent to allow vector images of trademarks for technical reasons and quickly checking the relevant category reveals some 10 thousand such images. Is there a specific reason why you added the request or have there been any new developments in image policy as pertaining to svgs that I'm not aware of? If not, I'd like to restore this file. It's not a big deal, just that it helps with consistency in management if there are central decisions guiding image formatting (outside of special cases, of course). - Ah, sorry, I didn't consider that only the last log entry would be visible. The deleted history goes...

We hope (talk | contribs | block) (1,909 bytes) (added reduce tag)
- So what happened was: you added the reduce tag --> DASHBot removed the reduction request --> Tim1357, DAHBot's op, undoes the removal --> Schrodinger's cat is alive replaces the images used with a png version --> the .svg becomes orphaned and gets tagged as such. The reason I asked you about it is because in my reconstruction it was your tagging that triggered the recent chain of events leading to deletion and I wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing before moving on to the next step in contesting the deletion. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 16:23, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- As I recall there are a couple of bots that are supposed to take care of that. Unfortunately automated tasks seldom take into account anything more than a couple of variables in determining how to proceed and most images are deleted by a small handful of admins who wouldn't be able to keep up with the workload if they thoroughly investigated the history of each file. In all honesty I'm only going through all this research as a matter of keeping practice on wikisleuthing, the image was translated into another format and not deleted so there was nothing lost.
- It took years to get to the point where users were told at all about how to contest deletions and it's going to take many more before the image policy comes into line with a reasonable method of enforcement and briefing users on what happens. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 16:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

File:Robert Uhlmann at piano.jpg
Hi, so I'm a bit confused. This photo was sent to me as a publicity photo that I requested and with the understanding that it would be uploaded and copied in a Wikipedia article about the subject of the photo, Robert Uhlmann. Do I need more explicit permission? Please advise. Thanks so much, and sorry for the misunderstanding. Expewikiwriter (talk) 20:56, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments. That clears it up. Expewikiwriter (talk) 21:30, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi, so I have another question for you. Similar issue, but different images. I don't know why these two images have been tagged with di-no permission flags:
File:Demon_Days_-_Angel_of_Light_Book_Jacket.jpg and File:Demon_Days_Book_Jacket.jpg
They're reproductions of book covers used in current Wikipedia articles about each of these books. I've used book jacket images before and never had a problem. Perhaps I put down the wrong license? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Expewikiwriter (talk) 17:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- THANK YOU SO MUCH! I won't make THAT mistake again! Expewikiwriter (talk) 18:13, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Hello We hope, regarding your comment here, images cannot use a non-free use rationale and be licensed under a free license. (See here for a definition of what is considered "free".)
If an image is free (either under a free license or in public domain), it should have an appropriate copyright tag along with Template:Information.
If the image is not free (non-free content), then it needs an appropriate copyright tag along with Template:Non-free use rationale. Non-free content needs justification on why the use of the non-free content is appropriate. Non-free content must meet all 10 non-free use criteria in order to be used.
So the problem with File:Troy Public Library 1894.jpg is that the image is using a free license copyright tag (public domain), yet it has a non-free use rationale. There is no need to justify the use of free images. So to fix the problem, someone needs to remove the non-free use rationale, and replace it with Template:Information. Question
So if a group is no longer together then you can upload a picture of them under fair-use? I saw that is what you wrote on Chocolat (group) and want to relay the information to the new users. Jae ₩on (Deposit) 02:23, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. That was one thing I didn't know about disbanded musical groups and band. Do you have an example of that? I'll look at it as reference. Jae ₩on (Deposit) 02:37, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Jae ₩on (Deposit) 02:47, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
