Welcome

[edit]

Hello, S an editor and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.

Go through our online training for students.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, if your class doesn't already have one. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Stuartyeates (talk) 08:06, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Urban Agriculture in West Oakland, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Covenants (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:City slicker farms architecture.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:City slicker farms architecture.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:57, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi S: did you get permission from City Slicker before uploading this? If so, please have them send an email to the address noted above; otherwise it'll unfortunately need to be deleted. As gone over during one portion of the trainings, Wikipedia only accepts images that are freely licensed or can be used under our rather restrictive fair-use guidelines (and this one won't meet our fair-use guidelines.) Nomination of Mandela MarketPlace for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mandela MarketPlace is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mandela MarketPlace until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:13, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi S - I would encourage you to add more secondary sources to the article. It also might be worth considering whether the article would be better titled "Mandela Foods Cooperative" instead of "Mandela MarketPlace," although I think either title works, and the current one is probably preferable. Kevin Gorman (talk) 20:23, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've been trying to find secondary sources but can't find any good ones. Have you come across anything? S an editor (talk)

  • Mandela Marketplace's own website has a press file that has some worthwhile stuff in it - there's a KQED blog (which is one of the largest NPR member stations,) a bunch of stuff from OaklandLocal and OaklandNorth, and a number of other places that meet our guideline for reliable sources. A bunch more can be turned up on Google. I'm also in office hours in 120 Wheeler for the next hour and a half or so and can help you in person if you happen to be around. Please do not remove the deletion message at the top of the page until the deletion discussion is finished, though. Best, Kevin Gorman (talk) 20:23, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:City Slicker Farms How We Grow.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 23:50, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
