Lightship Category[edit]

Hi! I wasn't aware of the lightship list, but categories are evolving into more of a supplement to lists rather than a replacement anyway; advantages are that the category remains even if the list is mangled, plus the category reflects actual article titles instead of redir/piping. I also hope that their existence will encourage lists to be made more useful by annotation (a la list of people by name), and at some point I hope we'll be able to use tools to compare list and category content. USS Virginia[edit]

Yup, that's a better picture. I had thought of the other as more-or-less a placeholder; the best that Google found me, and better than the blank space there before. I've made the change, but the caption needs something: when? where?

West Virginia University[edit]

I think it looks awesome how much info's been added to WVU; seems like a school I'd want to go to some day, hm? You'd asked about the red links: I know it doesn't look so great, but the way I look at it, if you're going to provide a list of notable alumni at all, you might as well link them. They'll get filled in eventually. [[User:Rhymeless|Rhymeless | (Methyl Remiss)]] 10:15, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

FYI: I'm not related to the WVU professor, as far as I know. I did live in the Charleston area for about a dozen years before I left for law school (not in West Virginia), but I never attended WVU. Dale Arnett 05:08, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)

U S Maritime Commission[edit]

I had added United States Maritime Commission. I did not know about US Maritime Administration page. The logo I added was the original 1936 version. I was also trying to figure where to list the ships built under the 1936 charter. See: Merchant Ships at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ships Oldfarm 02:25, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Naval Air Station[edit]

Out of curiosity, do you know anything about naval air stations, or specific naval air stations? Most of the aircraft carrier pages reference at least one such station, but no one seems to be able to create pages for the bases in question. TomStar81

Five Good Emperord[edit]

Dear Scotty, would it be possible for you to make another Image:Five Good Emperors.jpg not distorted. This one is a bit sinistre. muriel@pt 23:38, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Commonwealth of Nations Map[edit]

Hello, Scotty! Nice map of the Commonwealth of Nations. But I wonder what happened to Canada on this map? It looks divided in half ... --romanm (talk) 19:44, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

IMHO it would be better to leave off the details about lakes of Canada on this map. As it is, it's not quite obvious that there are lakes from NW to SE; it looks like a borderline if you don't look very carefuly. --romanm (talk) 00:35, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

X-1 Submarine[edit]

I've replaced Image:X-1.bmp with Image:X-1.png; it's identical quality but about a quarter of the size. Not sure what you want to do with the original, but thought I'd let you know anyway. Shimgray 20:54, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Extraterrestial nomenclature[edit]

While I am not aware of clubs per se, I am aware that there are companies out there that keep lists of names of stars that they named for a fee from various folks. The astronomers don't recognize those names as official, though. Rickyrab | Talk 12:58, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

John III of Portugal[edit]

You voted for John III of Portugal on WP:IDRIVE, but it dropped out. Due mainly to language problems it is not featured quality yet. I have renominated it at the Biography Collaboration, so it gets the attention needed to become featured quality. If you are still interested you can vote for it there.--Fenice 12:03, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I took the liberty of balancing and sharpening this image that you uploaded. I hope you don't mind. --Durin 20:58, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NASA photos[edit]

I notice you've been adding a lot of NASA photographs to early spaceflight pages. I just wondered if you were aware of the NASA Image Exchange at nix.larc.nasa.gov? It's an attempt at a "union catalogue" for NASA's image archives; if you're looking for images to illustrate these articles, it might come in handy, rather than having to dig through random webpages.

Apologies if you already knew about this, but it's sufficiently obscure it might be worth pointing out. Shimgray 12:54, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pregnant Guppy[edit]

Thanks for the picture! If ever an aircraft article needed a photo, it was this one. The aircraft has to be seen to be believed. --Jumbo 08:09, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Message[edit]

It's a pleasure to meet another West Virginia contributor as well, ScottyBoy. I read your profile and that's awesome, I'm a recent graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Intl. Studies and a minor in History. I've had a little extra time on my hands while awaiting my background clearance from the US Government for a job I was recently hired for. I've been taking advantage of this extra time on my hands and have been adding articles here and there on whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Good luck with the adminship! If you ever need assistance, just give me a holler --Caponer 21:33, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Self-nom? You should have come to me. Anyways, you have my vote. --Caponer 23:04, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Using Commons for PD images[edit]

Hi. I've noticed you uploading several PD NASA images. It is highly recommended that you upload them to Commons instead so they can be simultaneously available to other language wikis without having separate copies on each. RedWolf 05:13, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
