Speedy deletion nomination of Andrew skelton

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Andrew skelton for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

I didn't delete the article; I tagged it for deletion, and an administrator who agreed with my assessment deleted it. If you like, you can go to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion and request that the article be undeleted and moved to your userspace, where you can continue to work on it. Advice - reply to your message on my talk page

If you click on the "redlinks" you can see what happened: you wrote Andrew skelton, another user "moved" the page to Andrew Skelton to get the capitalisation right, leaving a redirect. What I deleted was the redirect. The actual article was deleted by RHaworth (talk), and the deletion log entry shows the reasons.

As the subject's son, you have from Wikipedia's point of view a WP:Conflict of interest, and should read that page and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Editing with a COI is strongly discouraged, and two of the reasons for that explain why your article was deleted:

A COI editor wants to "sell" his subject, to present it in the best light. So you write things like: " known for many things including his award winning music... Artists and labels actively seek out Andrew... passionate about child protection... "; but Wikipedia requires a WP:Neutral point of view and is not for promotion of any kind
You write what you know of the subject from his reminiscences and your own knowledge; but the Wikipedia:Verifiability policy is that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source". The point of published is that a reader should, in principle, be able to check what he reads here.

It will be very difficult for you to write an acceptable Wikipedia article about your father; in fact, my advice is not to try, but to wait until his work interests someone enough to write one who is unconnected with him. What you were writing would be much more suitable for a social-networking site like Facebook, whose standards are quite different.

If you want to try, your COI means that you should prepare a draft for an uninvolved user to review. You can do that by clicking on Help:userspace draft and filling in the title, or by using WP:Articles for creation. There is excellent advice for people in your situation from an experienced Wikipedian at User:Uncle G/On notability#Writing about subjects close to you:

When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write.

If you like, you can ask RHaworth whether he is willing to "userfy" your article - move it into a draft page where you can work on it; but I think you are likely to do better by starting from scratch along the lines advised. Read WP:Your first article for general advice, and WP:MUSICBIO and WP:CREATIVE for the relevant WP:Notability standards.
