Hello, I am the author of the page and I also work for the organization. What is the problem and how can I fix it? True, organization is fresh (well it goes back in 2012 but it has been restarted in 2015), but there are two events scheduled for this year with plans for 2016 already in motion. Please advise me how to repair what is needed because I've put a lot of work into creation of the Wikipedia page.SebastjanH (talk) 20:04, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to add various mentions and link - and found out that the page has been deleted. Any chance to revive it? A lot is going on and I didn't find time to do that earlier. Just a reference link: https://www.eliteboxing.tv/en/news/Combat-Sports-Work-Together-to-Achieve-Common-Goals Please let me know how to proceed. SebastjanH (talk) 09:32, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

Abu Dhabi has been a landmark for Grappling and Jiu-Jitsu for over a decade, and now with the launch of Warriors, will become a landmark for MMA as well. The Abu Dhabi Warriors 1 attracted 3,000 spectators at the ADNEC Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Cyrus Fees, an international ring announcer that has been seen on ABC, ESPN and Sky Sports among others, brought his signature phrase, "Knuckle up and throw down!" to the arena in Abu Dhabi where fighters from 16 different countries touched their gloves. Abu Dhabi Warriors 1 hosted an elite roster of referees with hundreds of contests in world's elite promotions. The first head referee of the world's leading organization UFC, John McCarthy, Yuji Shimada who refereed in the best Asian promotions and UK's Grant Waterman.

In the main event, heavyweights Maro Perak (Croatia) and Travis Wiuff (USA) collided in a gruelling three-round battle which saw both fighters have strong moments. America’s Wiuff got the better of the wrestling in many exchanges, and used the control this gave him to go to work, but Perak implemented an effective range of strikes during the bout which saw him to a split decision victory.

Yevgeniy Mahteenko (Ukraine) took the ‘W’ home in the penultimate match-up, outworking Jose Landi (Brazil) in a scrap which never hit the floor. The Ukrainian’s speed and range were the decisive factors and all three judges rendered him the better man.

After a closely contested affair, Kazunori Yokota (Japan) earned a late submission win against Anatoly Safronov (Ukraine). A rear naked choke finished proceedings in the final minute of the last session. A tremendous tussle between (until that date) unbeaten European’s Simone Tessari (Italy) and Benjamin Brinsa (Germany) wowed the audience in Abu Dhabi. Both showed great determination and resolve on top of well-rounded skill sets and heavy ground and pound. Germany’s Brinsa received a unanimous nod from the judges.

Mikhail Zayats (Russia) made it five wins in a row against Marcin Elsner (Poland) in light heavyweight action. Showing impressive takedowns against a larger competitor, the Karachev-born athlete got the result he wanted in the second round, as his foe was forced to tap from a tight guillotine choke.

The Abu Dhabi Warriors 2[3] saw some of the world’s best fighters compete in a series of 10 thrilling bouts. The competition’s heavily stacked fight card saw some of the event favorites make MMA history. The evening started with the featherweight clash between Yuan Ye (China) and Yun Ho-Young (South Korea), with Yuan Ye taking top honours after a unanimous decision.

Rene Wollinger (Austria) battled Max Nunes (Sweden) in the middleweight category. Nunes, who is being regarded as one of Europe’s top prospects in the middleweight division, won the fight via TKO in Round 3 with a vicious left knee-left hook combination. David Matosevic (Croatia) challenged Vaso Bakocevic (Montenegro) in the catchweight category, with David Matosevic ceding defeat after Bakocevic ground and pounded him in Round 1. Jesse Ronson (Canada) fought Gadji Zaipulaev (Russia) in the lightweight class and won the fight with one of the slickest moves of the evening. Ronson submitted the Russian with a standing Guillotine choke. Another lightweight class encounter brought UFC veteran Waylon Lowe (USA) and Mateusz Teodorczuk (Poland) face to face, with Waylon Lowe making his mark as the better fighter.

The other middleweight fighters that went to combat were Rodrigo Ribeiro (Brazil) versus Jim Wallhead (United Kingdom), with Jim Wallhead emerging as the dominant force. Wallhead knocked Ribeiro through the ropes with a thunderous punch. Two of the other clashes in the middleweight category between French kickboxing expert Xavier Foupa-Pokam and Moldavian fighter Pavel Doroftei, and Ryuta Sakurai (Japan) and Svetlozar Savov (Bulgaria) brought the crowd to its feet with power-packed endings. Foupa-Pokam and Savov triumphed in these fights.

The highlights of the evening were the heavyweight showdowns between former Strikeforce heavyweight prospect Brett Rogers (USA) and Derrick Mehmen (USA) and Baga Agaev (Russia) versus Mike Kyle (USA). Fans watched in wonder as the MMA superstars punched, kicked and grappled their way to a well-earned victory. Mehmen and Kyle were crowned heavyweight champions as the evening ended. The evening was a clear success with fans eagerly waiting to hear about the prospect of more such fights being held in the UAE.
