Hi there
Can you help? I see in the cluster of advisories atop my page one about "notability" of a music page. Pink Peg Slax released multiple vinyl records and one CD and appeared on national BBC radio, so I don't understand. I've seen many articles on similar bands with no such advisories.
Regards

I'm the one who put the tags on there. I'll explain them here:
  • "may need to be rewritten" and "may be in need of reorganization": Skimming over the article, its way too long than it needs to be, in my opinion. A main concern is having the albums in the article; I would say that the album, including the track listing, isn't needed at all and can be condensed down to sentences or a paragraph. Albums should normally be its own article, unless its not notable itself (in which it should just be mentioned in the band article).
  • "may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for music" and "needs additional citations for verification": most of the references are from Discogs, which is not considered a reliable source because it is user generated per WP:DISCOGS. All the other references are not about the band, and barely mention them (in some cases, don't mention them at all), so they don't count towards notability. Overall, the sources currently don't establish that its a notable band. A lot of the main text isn't sourced either, so that doesn't help.
If I'm being honest, you should have gone through WP:AFC instead of moving it to mainspace so that it could be worked out on how the article should be, or if the band is notable. reppoptalk 20:21, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I got notified about a linking between Pink Peg Slax and André Jacquemin‬, André was a French bishop and died in 1975, it is completely illogical and quite impossible for them to have produced an album in the '80s. I have removed the Wikilink and left it as black text, (i.e. normal text, blue means a link on Wikipedia). 多多123 14:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SelfPityingStan: Thank you for replying, as of now I see it of somewhat importance to start a page on this person, you may like to include more of their songs such as the one he was nominated for in the 1983 film Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. If you need help with this, please do not hesitate to ask, or if you wouldn't be interested on taking on this new project I may do it instead; however, seeing as you are already fairly acquainted with some history of his career I believe you would be more prepared to start such a page. Thank you, A.B.123 (talk) 11:49, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to advise you to read this page, I'd also like to thank you for your participation in the Wikipedia English project, but please do not add unnecessary external links. Others may see this as spam or vandalism. I understand you're quite new to editing (User talk:SelfPityingStan#Welcome!). If you need any help you can go to the community portal or leave a message on my page, (as I'm the one leaving this warning) or an admin. 多多123 15:02, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you're right. I will clean it up. SelfPityingStan (talk) 22:35, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Pink Peg Slax in Tetley Bar.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation of https://www.flickr.com/photos/pinkpegslax/7386570856 and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. reppoptalk 17:18, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello SelfPityingStan! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 18:11, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there
I have responded separately on WM Commons - the photos I used are from a friend's Flickr page and he is preparing a response to indicate transfer of rights so they can be used legitimately. But in the meantime, delete the images if you have to.
I reject any comments about plagiarism, though! I haven't directly used anyone's text and any quotations are clearly marked as such. SelfPityingStan (talk) 09:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Sumanuil. I noticed that you recently made an edit to Pink Peg Slax in which your edit summary did not appear to describe the change you made. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 00:11, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
