{{helpme}} Are chain letters allowed on Wikipedia or is this classed as SPAM, even if people well know the Wikipedia they send it to. SimsFanTalk to MeCommons 20:03, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Standard message or not, I'm always happy to help. :) Chain messages are generally discouraged, as Wikipedia isn't a social network. There are very few acceptable circumstances; for example, chain messages may be sent to members about WikiProject updates, addressed AfD concerns, addressed concerns at FAC or FAR etc. What sort of message did you have in mind? I can't really judge until I know what it is. Thanks, PeterSymonds | talk 20:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} I know what admins are, but what are beaurcrats and stewards. SimsFanTalk to MeCommons 07:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm not sure on the wikipedia context for these, I would guess that bureaucrats are users who do paperwork .etc. - but I have absolutely no idea on stewards. Massassi (talk) 08:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Bureaucrats and m:Stewards. Basically, Bureaucrats have higher privileges than admins (they can promote other users to admin or 'crat status, manage bot status and rename accounts), and Stewards are a step above that, elected to work with the Wikimedia Foundation to manage all user privileges and provide assistance across the spectrum of Wikimedia websites. Those links can explain it better than I can ;) Huntster (t@c) 09:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know something like this appears in your watchlist. What do the +0 -0 etc. mean (i have put these in italics). SimsFanTalk to MeCommons 16:01, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, they mean how much text has been added or removed total. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 14:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Blocking bots

[edit]

See Template:Bots for more information on how to block some bots. It should be noted however, that not all bots are exclusion compliant (as in some just ignore the template) and there are some exceptions. Regards. Woody (talk) 15:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominated this category for deletion, you can view the discussion at Wikipedia:User categories for discussion. I also substituted all the welcome messages you posted with User:SimsFan/Welcome. This is standard for such messages, and it may have strange unexpected effects when not. Also, remember that we really appreciate quality contributions in article space, but tend to discourage anything that may bring Wikipedia closer to MYSPACE. My RfA

[edit]

Hi SimsFan; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 22:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the trouble to participate! I'm about half way through McGill and will soon put the comments up. There are more now so I'll check against duplicates first. Best, PeterSymonds | talk 22:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replied to you on my talk.

You should learn to remember using your watchlist wisely. It's highly recommendable to set "Add pages I edit to my watchlist" in My Preferences -> Watchlist.

Also, learning to use the talk pages correctly is very important. If you don't remember asking something, then it's probably not very important :)

The Talk page is one of the important and unique features of Wikipedia. Be sure to read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines some time soon. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 03:52, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
