User talk:Stardust8212/Help me
This archive specifically deals with times I have attempted to help another user, often by answering {{help me}}
s. It seems to be common enough that it should be archived separately and also it is sometimes nice to have a place to go and see that your work is appreciated. Everybody needs a little pick me up now and then. Stardust8212

Thanks!
For the edit you just made in Iggy Arbuckle. I had such a heck of a time trying to keep sections with infoboxes and the sections just below them tidily organized and arranged! Now, thanks to you, I know how to do it. I can't thank you enough! Wilhelmina Will 02:32, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, I know a lot of the little tricks just take a moment if you know them but they can take forever to figure out without seeing them work. Stardust8212 03:09, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your contributions!
Thank you for finding all that external information on Iggy Arbuckle, and for tidying up some of the formats! That was much appreciated. Any other notable external/internal info you can find would also be appreciated.
By the way, I personally recommend trying the show. It's really cute! I'm actually beyond the targeted age of the viewers, but I had read the comic strip years before, as I am a regular receiver of National Geographic Kids. When I found out that it was now a TV show, I instantly started watching it (I think it was only produced as a strip once, and I wanted to know more about the characters and the Kookamunga.). I just love it! Wilhelmina Will 05:09, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
What do you think of this?
I found this site: http://art-candy.blogspot.com/2007/08/photos-of-vancouver.html while I was trying to find a reliable source for a requested citation I put up in the List of Iggy Arbuckle characters. I don't know if it's a reliable-enough third-party source (it probably isn't, I know, but I'm really excited) but it's saying that there's a strong possibility of a second season being released in April. Do you think I should include this in the main page? Wilhelmina Will (talk) 01:17, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- Blogs typically don't qualify as reliable sources unless they are written by someone who would otherwise be reliable (a well known columnist who is an expert on the subject may be an example, or the show's creator or producer). I would say in this case it cannot be used as a reliable source. As a tip, I find the best place to find reliable sources is to use a Google News search rather than a basic Google search. You can even set it up to email you every time a new news item meets your search criteria (I have three emails in my inbox right now for articles that say "Futurama" anywhere in the text). If there's going to be a second season it will eventually be mentioned somewhere reliable. Just remember, there is no deadline, you don't have to rush to get the latest gossip and news. Try searching the websites of the production company or television station to see if they officially have announced it yet. Sometimes voice actors will also leak info like this. Billy West was the first to announce the possibility of Futurama's return. Anyway, just be patient, it'll come eventually. Stardust8212 02:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
THat's a thing typically hard for me to do - be patient - even though I request it of others. People usually don't like a taste of their own medicine, do they? Well, I would never remove content from an Iggy Arbuckle page unless it was for transferring to another page, so somebody else will probably do it. Wilhelmina Will (talk) 02:36, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Good advice!
I think I'll take your advice. However, when it comes to the discussions on his page, I'm not so sure about completely avoiding participating. His talkpage is also on mine, and I remember a few weeks ago, he was in an argument with User:Still Calico - about episode articles of a show, as usual - and I gave a suggestion to Still Calico about what he could do. That ended up bringing peace between those two users, however temporarily. But otherwise, you're right about not bursting in the doorway every two minutes, so to speak.
By the way, thanks for the cookie! I've given other users - besides TTN - cookies and smiles, but this is the first time anyone ever gave me such a thing, aside from a blank stare... Wilhelmina Will 03:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
By the way, you wouldn't happen to know the formula for userboxes which say that a user is of the following ancestries: Polish, German, Dutch, Danish, Prussian, Russian, Swedish, French, and Portugese - would you? Wilhelmina Will 03:47, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! Wilhelmina Will 04:04, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
You've been loved by Cirt
Thank you for all of your help at the FAC, and before that getting the article Hell Is Other Robots up to WP:GA status as well. It's been a blast working collaboratively with you on this. Cirt (talk) 15:45, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Neat, thanks. Let me know if you need any other help. Stardust8212 01:27, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Asking for help on WiKUpedia project
Hi Stardust8212,
My name is Jarrod and I'm currently working on a project called WiKUpedia, with the goal of providing the one-stop shop for all things KU. We've had a tremendous response from the community since we went live on Sunday but we need help organizing and improving the wiki. We decided to reach out to experienced Wikipedia editors with ties to the University. You can read a little more about our project in a news story in the Lawrence Journal World
Please feel free to take a look around our project and if this sounds like something that interests you, please respond on my talk page or by email. Thank you so much in advance. --Jarrodm (talk) 05:20, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Red Dwarf peer review
I was wondering if you could take some time out of your schedule to head over to the Red Dwarf talkpage and give us an honest peer review. The page has gone through some major changes in the last few months, and it would be fantastic if a prominent editor/contributor like yourself, could head over and give us at the Red Dwarf Wikiproject some sound opinion and ideas on improvements for the page. We have all worked very hard at improving the page, and we need great outside, reliable and trustworthy users to come over and help us improve. If you are interested in joining the peer review discussion with other prominent users/contributors, much like yourself, please follow the link. Thank you very much for your help and your continued effort to improve Wikipedia and its quality! Wikipedia:Peer review/Red Dwarf --Nreive (talk) 11:19, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks

Thanks (3rd in a row, I know)
Thanks for picking up where I left off with Mineowyn. I'm glad he still has an adopter. Much appreciated, and happy editing, Leonard^Bloom (talk) 17:12, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Adoption
Thanks alot for your offer stardust! However, I'm currently busy with finals so I won't be active in learning wikipedia from you until maybe late november. If you're okay with such an arrangement give me a shout and maybe I can post on my page that I've been adopted. ;) Mineowyn (talk) 15:29, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
This is Tman, I gladly accept your adoption offer, I would like to know what is necessary in an article and when to make a notice of a minor edit, I am usually surfing the web, just tell me what to do. Tman7776 (talk) 15:50, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
About getting help through CHAT
Thank you answering my question about foreign language proofreader tags. I suspected that maybe there was a policy of not letting people not claiming a certain level of language proficiency enroll as proofreaders. According to you, that's not so.
Now here's my next question. You advised me how I could chat without software. I had falsely reported, out of discretion and in an attempt to steer your response, that I lacked ACCESS to chat. The truth is, I lack PERMISSION to chat. I visit the Internet over college computers. Every college in town has a policy against chat. As a current student yourself, I suppose you're familiar with this approach to college computer network administration. So, can you direct me to where to complain about Wikipedia steering all requesters to use chat? You are the third helper in a week to respond as you did, so obviously there's a policy. I would like to ask Wikipedia to instruct all helpers to offer an email as an alternative to chat. Again, what Wikipedia page do I go to to lodge my complaint? Thank you. Hurmata (talk) 06:36, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually two different people responded to your question. User:Blow of Light advised you to use chat [1] and I left the note about possibly using the preview button instead of the save button [2]. I've never advised anyone to use chat instead of posting on wiki. There's actually no policy which tells helpers to suggest using chat, it is one of the many ways a person can get help and could lead to getting help faster but isn't dictated. I'm not sure where to complain about it, helpers are volunteers like everyone else on Wikipedia and the only organization of it is where to check to see if anyone needs help. I guess you could leave a message at Category talk:Wikipedians looking for help and perhaps some helpers would see it, I'm not sure how many monitor that talk page though. Good luck and happy editing. Stardust8212 12:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Help Me - William C. DeMille
{{helpme}}
Can someone assist? I would like to move (rename) the article William C. DeMille to William C. deMille ... since his last name is correctly punctuated with a lower case "d" and not an upper case "d". However, the page named William C. deMille already exists (and is redirected to William C. DeMille). And, since William C. deMille already exists, I am precluded from renaming (moving) the current article correctly. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:16, 22 June 2008 (UTC))
- An admin should be able to move it for you, try listing it at requested moves and if it's not controversial it should get handled quickly. Stardust8212 04:20, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will try that. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:25, 22 June 2008 (UTC))
- Thank you ... that did work. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 18:46, 22 June 2008 (UTC))
thanks
- Thanks. Was concerned considering it is a living person article. Unusual name for a song isn't it? --Npnunda (talk) 19:21, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed! I thought it was an attack and if I hadn't seen the article history and the AFD I wouldn't have realized it was a legit redirect. Stardust8212 19:33, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
sockpuppetry
Yes, that is the issue. How do you suggest I proceed?--Mak Allen (talk) 08:02, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
it's me tman7776, someone you adopted
I need help, I need to know how to take text and redirect it to another page that is different from the text, like The pink Panther, it redirects to the film series, but I want to redirect it to the cartoon series,
you know like when a movie references The Breakfast Club (which is a good movie I haven't watched yet) and there is redirecting text (the blue text) that says "80's movie of the same name", but when you click it it redirects to the article for The Breakfast Club.
reply back asap. Thanks

sign gene
Hello -
Today I built a new article on wikipedia untitled "Sign Gene" but received a message from you saying that it needs more references. Recently, I've worked on improving it. Please let me know if there is anything further I need to add.
Much thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.106.157.79 (talk) 07:14, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was a bit busy this weekend and didn't notice this message until after the page had been deleted. Sorry if this caused you some trouble, if you have other questions in the future feel free to ask and I will try to answer in a more timely fashion. Stardust8212 14:02, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Need some clarification
Hi, I am trying to include external links to a 19 year old magazine call Backwoods Home. I placed external links on pages with subject matter that the magazine focuses on. Is this permissible? If not, what are the qualifications to link a nationally known self-reliance magazine to like subject matter. Thank You.Jays99 (talk) 21:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Newbie confusion
Hi there - I notice some of my revisions to the occupational therapy page were deleted. I'm new to this whole Wiki thing and would appreciate any guidance on why they were removed or what I could do to ensure future revisions are acceptable. Many thanks, --Ukot (talk) 07:48, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I hope this little incident won't keep you from continuing to contribute to Wikipedia, there is a lot of red tape around here sometimes and I know from first hand experience that it can be a bit overwhelming. Looking at your changes I can see that they were obviously made in good faith but I can also understand why some people might want to revert them. I am not an expert on external links and I don't want to tell you what should or should not be linked from that particcular page because I am certainly not an expert on occupational therapy. My best advice would be to start by reading WP:EL, it's the basic guideline for when to add links and when not to and it seems to be the reason stated for why the changes were reverted. Once you feel you have a grasp of that if you still feel like the links belong and you are encountering resistance then start a discussion at Talk:Occupational therapy, state why you think the links should be included and see what other editors of the page think. Maybe they will tell you there is a good reason not to include them, maybe they will agree with you, working on Wikipedia is all about building a consensus among editors and having a consensus that agrees with you is one of the most powerful tools you can have. I see you've already asked the user that reverted you for their reasons as well and that was a good first step. If you need any more advice feel free to ask me, I'm not online as much as I used to be anymore but if I will try to help when I can. Stardust8212 18:42, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
