Cypriot nationality law

Hi, your recent edits on the Cypriot nationality law article have been in violation of WP:NPOV. Although it seems we've come to agreeable phrasing in the lead, you are continuing to add quotations around the TRNC to emphasize the nonrecognition of its international status. I understand that you might not feel that adding quotations around the TRNC is biased, however this has been documented to be a known messaging tactic by proponents of the Greek Cypriot side. The current wording in the lead already describes the TRNC as recognized only be Turkey and spells out the political situation explicitly. Please refrain from making further adding this back into the article and we can discuss any further suggestions you might have here. Horserice (talk) 23:35, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

Thank you Horserice for reaching out to me for resolving this issue, as I said in my edit's description, the quotations were added because the TRNC in not recognised by the international community as an indepentent country hence it can't be a republic, instead it is considered a part of the Republic of Cyprus under military occupation that was achieved by a full scale invasion by Turkey. There are a lot of people that read this lead or other similars and get misleaded that the island of Cyprus is shared between two indepentent and legitment countries (the Republic of Cyprus and TRNC), thus quotations help by making clear the status of the TRNC. Quotations around TRNC is not a thing that only Greek-Cypriots do, quotations are used by ALL media, articles, books and by the international community in general (except in Turkey of course) when referred to the TRNC. I have read wikipedia's policy about WP:NPOV and I can't find anything that I have done that violates it, as the quotations I added are not my personal opinion or believe, but rather worldwide facts that are backed by the majority of people. You are free to point out to me any WP:NPOV violations that I made, or provide me with any other resonable argument on why not to use the quotations; otherwise I must insist. Placing quotations around TRNC does not appear to be standard practice in international reporting. Here are a few examples from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Jerusalem Post, The Irish Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Hindu.

The quotations themselves alter the tone of where they are placed. Even if you don't attach a label like "self-declared", "so-called", or "self-proclaimed" before the TRNC term, the quotations are enough by themselves to push a perspective on readers. Adding them shows an opinion about the conflict where the article is supposed to be impartial (see WP:IMPARTIAL within WP:NPOV). Exposition on whether the TRNC is legitimate or not does not fall within the scope of this article, and any mention of it in the article is currently only there to explain how Cypriot nationality law applies to Turkish Cypriots who hold TRNC passports.
