Shri Suresh Kalmadi, MP put forward the concept of Metro project for Pune in 2001 so as to make it A global city while taking it forward on the path of development and followed it up continuously with Center and State governments. It would have largely solved Pune's problem of public transport and also it would have also provided impulsion to the development of the city. Mr. Kalmadi was stressing on the Metro project at every forum during last 13 years and was following it up at every level. Even when Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh came to Pune in February 2008, Kalmadi made a strong case to give the special package for Pune's Metro project. He also followed this matter with the Maharashtra government. Finally on June 28, 2012, the Maharashtra government submitted the detailed project report for the Metro rail to the Center. And this dream project of Suresh Kalmadi, MP,the ambitious project was approved in principle in his presence in a long meeting held in New Delhi with Union Minister for Urban Development Mr. Kamal Nath and Union Minister for Agriculture Mr. Sharad Pawar in January 2013. This was a great victory for the efforts held made over 13 years. This was actually a ‘Turning Point for the Pune's development. Even Maharashtra's Chief Minister Mr.Prithviraj Chavan publicly praised and congratulated Suresh Kalmadi, MP for following uprelentlessly the Metro project for Pune. The first phase of Metro rail was approved in principle which consists of two Metro rail routes, from Ramwadi to Vanaz and from Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad. The Pune Metro was given a kickstart by providing Rs 9.99 Crores in the Union Budget in March 2013; immediately thereafter, Suresh Kalmadi, MP put the demand to accord the approval as soon as possible and give Center's fund of Rs 518 Crores. He is still following it. He is trying to extend the Metro Rail from Chinchwad to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj in the next phase and also connect the airport through the Metro. The First BRT Project: BY Shri Suresh Kalmadi MP

The Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project was implemented in a city like Pune first time in the country to make the public transport system in Pune smoother. He even brought the necessary fund for it through the JNNURM of the Central government and got this project inaugurated on December 5, 2006 at the hands of the then Union Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy. The first bus ran in the first phase ofthis project on the Hadapsar to Swargate and Swargate to Katraj route in which the air-conditioned buses with more capacity of passengers were included. This project was planned so that the common people could travel within the city quickly and cheaply. The administration should have taken more precaution while implementing this project but it did not happen and hence, the public opinion was created contraryto this project. Suresh Kalmadi MP has demanded even to conduct the safety audit of this project. Shri. Suresh Kalmadi, MP always emphasized on the widening of major roads in the city, beautifying them and their cement concretization. He supplements them with various flyovers, sub-ways and parking zones. He emphasized on widening of roads from Pune airport to Raj Bhavan, Sinhagad Road, Satara road, Hadapsar road and other major roads. Also got all service lines like drainage lines, water supply lines and telephone cables etc. to the side through the ducts and then made all these major roads into cement concrete. Thus a good amount of expense on maintenance and repairs was saved. He also stressed on providing flyovers at Seven Loves square, Pune University road and other places. Besides he also supplemented them with subways at places like Deccan Gymkhana, Pune Railway Station and Balewadi as well as got erected the multi-floor parking lots at Aryan, Minerva, Hamal Wada and near Sambhaji Garden on Jangli Maharaj road. He always puts emphasis on making the road alongside riverbed from Shivane to Kharadi. Shri. Suresh Kalmadi, MP relentlessly followed up the issues like making the Pune Railway Station a World Class Station, efforts for Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, efforts for the new trains connecting Pune to North India, start of new trains, security of the railway station and modern system for that, to extending the platforms, following up with the Defense Ministry for the railway flyover at Ghorpadi, new terminus at Hadapsar, problems related to Pune-Lonavala and Pune-Daund locals, efforts to close down the railway crossing gates without the guards etc. He succeeded in getting approved major trains like Pune-Kolkata-PuneAzad Hind Express, Pune-Lucknow-Pune Express, Pune-Gorakhpur-Pune, Bilaspur-Pune-Bilaspur (MadhyaPradesh) Superfast Express, Pune-Darbhanga-Pune Express, Pune-Varanasi-Pune and other major trains during subsequent tenures through constant follow ups. Shri. Suresh Kalmadi, MP even got the Pune-Delhi Commonwealth (Rashtrakul) Express approved for some months at the occasion of Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune. In addition, the Pune-Ahmedabad Duronto Express was started because of his efforts. He showed green flag to it on March 11, 2012. lt was because of his efforts that new Pune-Amaravati Express, which connected Pune to Vidharbha anfd Marathwada, was introduced in the Railway Budget of201 2-201 3 and itwas flagged off by him on 4 March 2013. He followed up many issues like surveying the three railway stations at Pune, Shivajinagar and Khadki for their security preparedness and installing modern CCTV cameras there, to increase the number of Central Police Force personnel, to erect the system for checking the luggage, installing screens, electrification of Pune-Daund railway track, to build foot over bridge connecting platform no. 1 and 2 at Pune Railway Station, joining Pantry Car Bogey in the Pune-Jaipur train etc. Additionally, he is constantly liaising with the Defense Ministry so that a flyover is built on the railway crossing at Ghorpadi and the citizens should be facilitated. He strove for 5 years forthe 260 Kms. long new direct railway line between Pune to Nasik. He planned the survey for this route when he himself was the Minister of State for Railways. As this new route was approved in the final stages of the supplementary Railway Budget in 2013, this new railway line can come into existence now. He took up the follow up of the Pune- Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project when he was the Minister of State for Railways. The feasibility report of this Bullet Train Project, which will be erected with cooperation from Japanese company through various administrative stages, is expected to come out in two years. This will help save time of thousands of passengers on this route. Considering the development and expanse of Pune, Suresh Kalmadi, MP always emphasized on extending the facilities on the Pune Airport and making it an international airport. His efforts bore fruit when the Pune airport was accorded International Airport status about five years ago. Initially the flights to Dubai, Singapore and Frankfurt were started from Pune. It got boost to the export as well as passenger traffic. He unrelentingly pursued the issue of Cargo Terminus at Pune Airport with the Central government. Also, he took up the issues like installing Instruments Landing System at the airport, expansion of the airstrip, security system, additional parking space and making new adjoining roads etc. He raised many of these issues with the Center and State governments and got them solved as the Chairman of Pune Airport Authority Committee. He took efforts at various levels to make a new international airport near Pune and finally this issue was approved in principle. The land acquisition was started at Chakan near Pune for the proposed airport. But because of the resistance from the local farmers, this airport is now expected to come up near Rajgurunagar. He is trying to complete the survey work for the same and get it started as early as possible. He is also trying to introduce more civilian flights at the existing Pune Airport and he puts special emphasis on this during the annual meetings of Pune Airport Authority Committee. Shri. Kalmadi held talks with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of the Maharashtra so that the Maharashtra government should make provisions for the proposed international airport near Pune in its budget. The Maharashtra government has made provision of Rs 480 Crores for various new airports in the state in the annual budget of201 3 in which the provision has also been made for the new international airport of Pune. This should be deemed as the success of Kalmadi's efforts. Shri. Suresh Kalmadi, MP always followed up with the Civil Aviation Ministry to get more fund for increasing the number of airstrips at Lohegaon airport, constructing Cargo Terminal and making Taxi Track. It is because of this that the Central government has made a provision of Rs. 228 Crores. Even a fund of Rs 110 Crores was approved to build the terminal with the capacity of daily 600 domestic and 200 foreign passengers. The Taxi Track with the expense of Rs 118 Crores is operational now.The Pune-Kochi flights was introduced for the convenience of the Keralites who live in large numbers in Pune through the initiative of Kalmadi. Because of this, the citizens have benefited much. Since Pune is fast turning into global city, MP Kalmadi is still striving to make the Pune's airport a global airport.

How much Passionate for Development of Pune: Shri Suresh Kalmadi

[edit]

Greetings to all, During my long political journey, I was elected many times as the Member of Parliament only because of the love and trust bestowed by the citizens of Pune! To carry out comprehensive and dynamic development of the city of Pune, where I was born, was my passion. I got the opportunity to work for the development of Pune as the member of Rajya Sabha for a long period and then as the member of Lok Sabha many times and I always endeavored to fulfill this dream. In fact, wherever I might be in the world, the thoughts of the development of Pune constantly occupy my mind. I always strove to provide best quality civic amenities to Pune considering its ever increasing expanse. They include water supply project through the closed pipes from Khadakwasla dam, new sewage treatment plants, road widening, cement concretization, beautification of the squares, building new parking lots, creation of new flyovers, sub-ways and river improvement plan etc. While developing these infrastructural amenities, I supplemented them with plans like making Pune a garden city, providing jogging tracks in each garden, creation of theme parks, day-care centers and swimming pools etc. I always remained vigilant that all these small and big projects to facilitate the citizens should be expedited swiftly and qualitatively. I organized the national conferences of Hi-Tech Pune through the Pune Vyaspeeth, of which I was the president to focus on accelerating the national and international investment in Pune and creating more opportunities for the employment even as Pune was growing and encouraged investment in Pune. Huge funds were required to implement many projects for the development of Pune. But these grand projects were to be expedited without putting any burden on the Puneites in the form of taxes. Hence, I brought whooping Rs 2500 Crores in the first phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) of the Central government for the development of Pune. I proved to be the only parliamentarian in the country to bring such a big amount for the development of city. I remember the then Union Minister for Urban Development, Jaipal Reddy saying in the Parliament, “Suresh Kalmadi almost snatched such a huge fund from me for the development of Pune”. Has anyone else brought such big money as I did for the development of Pune? I am confident that I will be able to bring in even more fund for Pune's development during the second phase of JNNURM. During last 5 years, while successfully managing the national responsibility of Commonwealth Games, I heeded the development of Pune with same vigor and followed up many schemes and even expedited some of the projects. I will resolve Pune's traffic woes and for that I brought first BRT project from the Center to Pune. Additionally I managed, after relentlessly following up for 13 years, to get approval for the Metro Rail project for Pune which is becoming a global city. I remained involved in many issues like making the Pune airport an international airport, connecting Pune to the entire country by railway and solving Pune and Khadki Cantonment's issues related to Defense ministry, to avail water from the Bhama-Askhed dam for Pune, to be insistent on Puneites privilege over Pune's water and averting the water cut for Pune, to get the funding speedily for the expansion of Parvati water treatment plant through the JNNURM, to utilize my entire MPLAD fund, to prohibit constructions on hills and making Pune greener, to follow the issue of Pune's security with the Center, to get the whole government machinery active in Pune during the Swine flu outbreak and initiating the development of Cantonment areas as also being active participant in various social, cultural, educational and religious programs for the last five years and I also took up various issues of Pune at Center. I always tried my best to perform my duties as the MP from Pune.Pune is the cradle of education. I am striving to make every Puneite computer literate. I have always been demanding that poor children should also learn English and computer and lay ground for their bright future. I have donated computers worth Rs 7 Crores till now through my MPLAD Fund to PMC schools and various organizations. Out of them about computers worth Rs 1.40 Crores have been given to Urdu medium schools. I am confident that they will help brighten up the future of this generation. My journey continues with the sustenance of love from Puneites and the support of the workers. I have taken it as my mission to be passionate for Pune's development and’I am toiling in that direction. I deem the contribution from my wife, Mrs. Meera, in this work as very valuable. I am not in Pune many times as I have to be in New Delhi as MP. During such times, Mrs. Meera has taken the responsibility for so many years to meet the workers, understand their grievances, understand various problems of the public etc. and informing me about them. It is because of this contact maintained by her that nothing was left wanting even when I was in New Delhi. I give whole credit for this to her. A brief report of the work which I have done as the Member of Parliament of Pune for a long period is put here in front of you. Everyone disposed for the development of Pune‘s development has to be taken along. For this, you should contact without fail. Each of your suggestions and ideas will be welcome. Regards, Suresh Kalmadi Member of Parliament

Shri Suresh Kalmadi Achievements

[edit]

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi has been a tireless champion of bringing world-class events to India and developing infrastructure that is comparable to the international standards. As the Chairman of the CWG 2010 Bid Committee, his most recent achievement was winning the bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi, The CWG 2010 have a budget of Rs 1,988 crores and promises to change the face of Delhi just like the National Games 1994 changed the face of Pune.

Winning the honor to host the CWG 2010 has cleared the path for us to now bid for hosting the Olympics in 2016. China is hosting the games in 2008, they will be held in the west in 2012, and in 2016 it is fitting that the Olympics should return to Asia. Mr. Kalmadi is the Chairman of the Olympics 2016 Bid Committee. India will also be bidding for the World Athletics Championships in 2009.

"Somewhere during 2007, the Olympic evaluation team will arrive to see the infrastructure for both World meet and the Olympics and I am sure that we have enough infrastructure at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi and small infrastructure in other cities," Kalmadi has said.

Some of the appointments that Mr. Kalmadi holds in the sports area are:

President, Indian Olympic Association President, Asian Athletics Association President, South Asian Athletic Federation President, Athletics Federation of India Asian Area Council Member, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Chairman, Pune International Marathon Trust Chairman, Bid Committee for the Commonwealth Games 2010 Nominated to the Development & Finance Commission of IAAF till 2007 Chairman, Organizing Committee of Afro-Asian Games 2003 Chairman, Organizing Committee of National Games 1994 As the Asia Area Representative of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations), his endeavor has been to highlight the problems and the difficulties which the Asian continent has been facing. He was first elected for 2 years, and now has been re-elected for 4 years, and was the first Indian to be nominated to the IAAF council. Mr. Kalmadi was also the first Indian to be elected as the President of the Asian Athletics Association, an international athletics body having 45 countries as members.

WORLD HALF MARATHON Under the leadership of Mr. Kalmadi India will be hosting the World Half Marathon in October 2004, which is a very prestigious IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) event. Many of the international marathon greats and stars will descend on Delhi for this mega event.

The CWG 2010 is a big moment that will result in changes of the magnitude that the National Games brought to Pune in 1994, and those that the Asian Games brought to Delhi in 1982. Sports men and women from 72 countries are going to descend on India. To cope with the expected influx during this time into Delhi, a lot will happen to Delhi and the country - the economy, infrastructure, amenities, and the quality of life. The proposed budget of Rs 1998 crore will prepare our nation to hold the Olympics 2016. The successful organization of the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, with Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, paved the way for India to win the bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games 2010. With sportsmen and women from over 95 Asian and Africa countries, the management and logistics of arranging the Games were immense. But the leadership of Mr. Suresh Kalmadi and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu demonstrated that we are capable of conceiving and organizing even the biggest events. India was second only to China in the medals tally and earned 19 Golds, 32 Silver, and 29 Bronze medals for a total of 80 medals. This is reminiscent of our best ever performance in Asian Games which were held in Busan, and the Indian team won 11 Gold, 12 Silver, and 17 Bronze for a total of 40 medals - second only to China.

NATIONAL GAMES One of the best organized National Games was the 1994 edition held in Pune of which Mr. Kalmadi was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee. Since then 4 more National Games have been held under his leadership in Bangalore, Manipur, Punjab, and Hyderabad. Infrastructure of international standards worth Rs 1000 crore has been created to host these games, and the infrastructure is now being used for national and international events. The next edition of the games has been allotted to Assam.

In addition to the National Games, National Winter Games have also been organized at Auli, Shimla, and Gulmarg. Mr. Kalmadi has focused on providing opportunities for National Winter Games to rise to Olympic Standards.

RUN FOR YOUR COUNTRY – DELHI MARATHONS "Run for Your Country" and "Nehru Centenary Run" was organized by Mr. Suresh Kalmadi as the Chairman of the Amateur Athletic Federation of India (which since April 01, 2004 has dropped the Amateur from its name) with unprecedented mass participation. "Run for your Country" also called "Freedom Run" was one of the world's largest marathon in which over half-a-million runners participated. Even the then Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi himself was an enthusiastic participant.

ASIAN GRAND PRIX Mr. Kalmadi introduced the Asian Grand Prix in 2002, which has now been held twice. It started off in Hyderabad, and was also organized in Manila, Bangkok, and Colombo. It is now an annual feature. “I want a Puneite to win a gold medal in the Olympics 2016, when we will try to bring the Olympics to India. I am also the Chairman of the Olympics 2016 Bid Committee.” - Suresh Kalmadi

Mr. Kalmadi started his sports career with the Pune Athletics Association. As the President of the Maharashtra Athletics Association he started the Pune International Marathon, which is the only International Level marathon in India that is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations. He was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Games in Pune in 1994, which ushered the 2nd major developmental phase of Pune infrastructural growth.

As President of the Athletics Federation of India he has organized 8 permit meets in athletics which included athletes like Carl Lewis, Sergi Bubka, Merlene Ottey, Michael Johnson, Mike Powell, Said Aouita, John Godina, Gwen Torrtenee, Flo Jo, Ibrahim Ismail, Muhammed Sulaiman, and Susanthika Jayasinghe.

As Member of Parliament in Delhi Mr. Kalmadi has always worked for increased budgetary allocation for creating infrastructure, facilities, and training for sports all over the country, especially for athletics. He also fought for more sports in the Armed Forces and the Army Sports College is becoming a reality in Pune.

NATIONAL GAMES Mr. Kalmadi was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Games in Pune in 1994. They have been one of the best-conducted Games so far, and it was largely due to the political power and organizing ability of Suresh Kalmadi. It was during this time that the pride of Pune Sport’s establishment – the Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium, a sports complex spread over 62 hectares was built. It was the first stadium of its kind to be built in Maharashtra, and the facilities available here are probably the best available at one place anywhere in the country. It has since then been in regular use for the conduct of national and international events. Since the Pune National Games in 1994 four more National Games have been organized under his leadership at Bangalore, Manipur, Punjab, and Hyderabad. The next Games will be held in Assam.

The National Games are one of the biggest multi-discipline sports events conducted in the country, and involve the participation of thousands of athletes and officials. Conducting such a massive sports extravaganza calls for tremendous organizational ability, meticulous planning, top class communication systems and above all the ability to tackle emergencies quickly and effectively, cutting through red tape and bureaucratic delays.

PUNE INTERNATIONAL MARATHON Pune International Marathon is the brainchild of Mr. Suresh Kalmadi. This is the only international marathon in India, recognized by IAAF, and has been successfully conducted 18 times. The first edition of Pune International Marathon was held on September 25, 1983.

In 1980 when Mr. Suresh Kalmadi took over as President of the Maharashtra Athletics Association, he undertook the selection trials for the Marathon team to represent the country at the Moscow Olympics. Mr. Kalmadi drew a plan and discussed the same with the then President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association Mr. Sharad Pawar. This meeting threw up a positive message and the "Run for Fitness” theme was conceptualized, and born with it was the idea of starting an International Marathon in the state.

ASIAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS The Asian Cross Country Championships were held in Pune on February 22, 2004, under the aegis of Asian Athletics Association, of which Mr. Suresh Kalmadi is the President. The event was held for the first time in India. Mr. Kalmadi said, "We belong to Pune, Pune belongs to us, right till the finishing line." A total of 80 athletes from 13 countries participated in the cross country held at Poona Turf Club.

Mr. Kalmadi currently holds the following positions related to sports:

President, Indian Olympic Association President, Asian Athletics Association President, South Asian Athletic Federation President, Athletics Federation of India Asian Area Council Member, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Chairman, Pune International Marathon Trust Chairman, Bid Committee for the Commonwealth Games 2010 Nominated to the Development & Finance Commission of IAAF till 2007

Shri, Suresh Kalmadi is Innocent

[edit]

The 3rd Commonwealth Games were held at New Delhi in October 2010. This world class sports event did not come to the country of its own, but it took 7 long years of efforts for him to visit 71 Commonwealth member countries and promote it after which he succeeded in getting New Delhi chosen for this event in 2010. The entire nation stood behind him at that time. The then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee strongly supported him on behalf of all the countrymen. He managed to bring this event to New Delhi and they had seven long years at their disposal for the preparations. He was elected as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Commonwealth Games. Then the works like constructing various sports complexes, building games village for the players, beautification of Delhi, the ambitious Metro project and renovation of the Delhi airport etc. started during those seven years. There was delay at some places in getting the work take off, but none of these things was his prerogative. He was connected in no way to the budget for this. He was responsible only with the ‘games and players‘! And the budget in his hand, as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, was just Rs.1600 Crores. Personally, he did not have the authority to spend even a rupee. Every account of the expenditure was scrutinized with excruciating detail. He would put his final signature on every decision only after the all committee members would put theirs. This means that entire Organizing Committee was responsible for the expenditure of Rs.1600 Crores entrusted with it; He was not the alone. He had focused whole of his attention on things like players from all 71 members countries of the Commonwealth should participate in the event, they should be provided excellent arrangements at New Delhi, the timetable of the games should be adhered and the baton relay which would pass from 71 countries should be planned well etc. He also focused on rigorous planning of the grand inauguration ceremony and concluding ceremony. He also took special efforts so that the Indian players would have a bounty of medals in the event. Unfortunately, even after getting a good seven years of time for preparations, there was delay to many projects from the Union Ministry of Sports. Thus, the responsibility of players and games, which rested with him, was fulfilled in a planned manner even as the media discussed issues like whether this event would be held because of the delay in construction of the stadiums, renovation of old stadiums, games village and beautification of Delhi etc. Some media entities started false propaganda that this event would not take place. That is why even when the country was curious for this event, there was confusion whether it would be held or not and he is too much grieved for that. Still, He was confident that this event would be held and all works were completed in the last leg and the event was held graciously. The opening and concluding ceremony proved spectacular and besides, millions of people all over the world watched these ceremonies through TV. During the same time, this sport event was also held as per the timetable and without any hitch. The games proved to be spotless. The Indian players had plentiful of medals. The whole world expressed confidence that India could even host the Olympics. Media entities all over the world praised the planning, exactness, innovation and grandeur of the event. But the atmosphere became grim with the allegations flying thick during the same period. The media depicted the related news reports without having an iota of proof. At this juncture, He assured, ‘He is ready to face any inquiry’ and in fact, cooperated with the investigation agencies. He was wholly confident that he would get justice, even after being arrested, and is still confident. When the Delhi High Court approved bail for him, it clearly mentioned that ‘no money trail was found‘. The investigation agencies probed in so many cases but nothing came out. Just one case is still on against him in the court and he assure, everyone that he will emerge clean even from that. He has deep trust in the judiciary and he always strove to elevate the stature of the country. He reassures everyone that he has done nothing which would bring disrepute to the country. Do not forget, Barrister A R Antulay, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, also faced similar allegations of corruption and the court acquitted him of all charges after a long legal battle. It is sure that he will also get justice from the judiciary. The slander in these times certainly painful to him. But a large number of people supported him even during this trying time. They were convinced that he was innocent. Vanrai's chairman Honorable (Late) Mohan Dharia had also expressed that he was innocent. Now, he is continuing his work on that sustenance of love and trust from the supporters and once again assures that he will come clean out of the allegations of corruption. He always tried to take the name of his country and his city, Pune, higher and higher. It is to be repeated that, he has nothing which would bring dishonor. It will take some time for this to happen but finally, Once again express the confidence that he will get justice and his innocence will be proved.

Committed to Cantonment’s Development

[edit]

Three cantonments - Pune, Khadki (Kirkee) and Dehu Road out of 62 cantonments are in–Pune area. Out of these, Pune and Khadki Cantonments are in Pune city. Suresh Kalmadi, MP continuously took up the issue of changing the archaic Cantonment law and pass a new law in the Parliament. These efforts bore fruit through the cooperation from all. Thus it has been made possible for the MPs and MLAs to take part in the cantonments' functioning and utilize their development fund there. Shri. Kalmadi always followed various civil issues pertaining to Pune and Khadki Cantonment and to get them solved. Besides he paid lengthy visits to the Commander of the Southern Command and tried to resolve various issues. He took up a number of issues with the Central government like providing computers to the schools in the Cantonment areas, to get the arrears of Service Tax of the Cantonment which was pending with the Center, providing additional FSI to schools and hospitals, sports complex at Golibar Maidan, increasing medical facilities at Command Hospital and Sardarvallabh bhai Patel Hospital, water supply to each household, project of electricity generation from waste, renovation of the Dhobi Ghat, issues of vegetable market and health care etc. He is also trying to get fund for the development of cantonment areas through the JNNURM. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramesh Bhutani (talkcontribs) 09:44, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Global Airport for the Global City

[edit]

Shri. Suresh Kalmadi held talks with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of the Maharashtra so that the Maharashtra government should make provisions for the proposed international airport near Pune in its budget. The Maharashtra government has made provision of Rs.480 Crores for various new airports in the state in the annual budget of201 3 in which the provision has also been made for the new international airport of Pune. This should be deemed as the success of Shri Suresh Kalmadi's efforts. Shri. Suresh Kalmadi, MP always followed up with the Civil Aviation Ministry to get more funds for increasing the number of airstrips at Lohegaon airport, constructing Cargo Terminal and making Taxi Track. It is because of this that the Central government has made a provision of Rs.228 Crores. Even a fund of Rs 110 Crores was approved to build the terminal with the capacity of daily 600 domestic and 200 foreign passengers. The Taxi Track with the expense of Rs 118 Crores is operational now. The Pune-Kochi flights was introduced for the convenience of the Keralites who live in large numbers in Pune through the initiative of Kalmadi. Because of this, the citizens have benefited much. Since Pune is fast turning into global city, MP Kalmadi is still striving to make the Pune's airport a global airport.
