AfC notification: Draft:Toronto Nationals (cricket) has a new comment

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Toronto Nationals (cricket). Thanks! Sulfurboy (talk) 14:51, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Sulfurboy

Thank you for your immediate response. I would like to clarify that I am in no way paid for creating the page. TadGlobal owns a bit of the sports team Toronto Nationals, we just want our Team information to be officially available on the Wikipedia for our fans and also as a resource for the fans of our players.

I hope my reply is informative, I am willing to answer any further questions if needed.

Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TadGlobal (talkcontribs)

If your company "owns a bit" of the team then there is a financial COI and needs to be properly disclosed as paid editing. Sulfurboy (talk) 16:59, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I kindly request to consider my plea that the page is not intended as advertising. The Global T20 Canada Tournament is legit and has a wiki page, I just want Toronto Nationals to have a page as well. It has one of the star players in the sport. I request to kindly look into the team to get an idea. Players like Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard play for the team. It is essential that the team have its own page on Wikipedia. In fact if you search for Toronto Nationals, it does show up in the search, but sadly without a link to its own page.

Please let me know what I have to do to have the page published. I am new to wiki and learning more about it as I go. I can clearly say that there were no financial gain in making this page, just that it deserves to exist.

Thank you.

Your reason here

Decline reason:

(1) If you can create a page as full of unambiguous marketing-speak as you have done and honestly not see that it is promotional, then you have such an inability to see the nature of your own writing that it is doubtful whether you will be able to avoid making the same mistake again. (2) Wikipedia is not a free web-hosting service for organisations to post pages for their "fans". If you wish to publish information for fans then your own web site is a more appropriate place to do so. (3) Far from "[convincing] us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked", you have made it perfectly clear that you do intend to do exactly the same again. Hello TadGlobal. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Toronto Nationals (cricket), gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:TadGlobal. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=TadGlobal|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Sulfurboy (talk) 14:53, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page.
