Please help improve this project!--Gniniv (talk) 03:27, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

is it really worth the fragmentation of effort to create a wikiproject on each conceivable branch of pseudoscience? Seeing that there is already a project dedicated to pseudoscience as a whole? Perhaps it would be more useful to contribute to that. We have altogether too many stale wikiprojects without participation. They clog up talkpages and categorization without any benefit whatsoever. I find it bad practice to set up single-user wikiprojects. It makes sense to have projects on large fields such as "military history" or "geology", but the way we are going we will soon have one project per article. As with userboxes, we can afford to be lenient with this, but at some point soon some limit will be reached where this area of Wikipedia will need to be streamlined, with mergers of stale projects into larger ones. Imho it is entirely misguided to create new projects at this point. --dab (𒁳) 14:26, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good points. Or to put them differently: Did you discuss creation of this project first? I would like to understand what has changed since the last two times that creation of this project was considered not a good idea. [1] Hans Adler 18:26, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to agree as well. This is not saying that the ID project couldn't potentially expand a bit to embody the broader topic of creationism, which I would actually favot seeing done. But I don't see the reason for a topic covering a small section of the broader creationism topic when there isn't yet a group on that broader topic. Christianity portals

[edit]

I am currently trying to get together some lists of articles relevant to each Christianity-related portal which could be used, at least potentially, to help bring all the extant portals up to Featured Portal status. The current, admittedly incomplete, list of articles, images, etc., relevant to each portal can be found at User:John Carter/Christianity portals. I also think that, at least in theory, we would probably best use a single article only in a single portal, and that we probably have enough articles to do that, although there might be a few exceptions. I would welcome input from anyone on the associated talk page regarding which articles and other materials they would like to see associated with which portal(s), any suggestions for additional portals or changes to existing portals, etc. Thank you. Does this Wikiproject actually officially exist?

[edit]

I can see no evidence that its been approved as a proposal at WP:WikiProject Council/Proposals. Also, it seems to have only a single member (and I seem to remember there being a minimum). HrafnTalkStalk(P) 14:29, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not discussed before creation, previously twice rejected when it was discussed, only one member, less than 30 people watching the page: Looks like an MfD candidate to me, or whatever is the proper procedure in this case. But I simply don't care enough to start this. Hans Adler 15:25, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would userfication be a reasonable alternative, per WP:MFD 'Alternatives to deletion'? HrafnTalkStalk(P) 16:35, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is why I don't want to be an admin. I would always be getting into trouble for forgetting these elementary things. Seems very reasonable to me. Of course all the links and redirects from project space need to go. They make no sense for a 1-editor project. Hans Adler 18:12, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you about not wanting to be an admin. I'm fairly sure there are speedy-tags to take care of the subsidiary pages/redirects. I'll leave it for a bit, to make sure I do it with a clear head, and to let anybody who wants to weigh in on it, but will take a good careful look at how to unravel things within the next day or so. HrafnTalkStalk(P) 18:30, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think that retaining this WikiProject is helping fight Systemic bias on Wikipedia. See WP:IDONTLIKEIT--Novus Orator 05:37, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:NPOV & WP:FRINGE. This Wikiproject was not proposed and accepted in accordance with normal procedures, so has no official existence. The appropriate thing therefore is to userfy it to the userspace of its creator and sole member, yourself. HrafnTalkStalk(P) 05:52, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is not about WP:NPOV and WP:FRINGE. WikiProjects can be about minority topics (see WP:CRYZOO) and they can have a small membership base (see WP:CONGO). Whether or not you agree with the WikiProject's subject is not justification for deletion. See WP:Systemic bias.--Novus Orator 06:33, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I may be misunderstanding completely, but it sounds as if the sole purpose of this wannabe wikiproject is to violate wikirules on pseudoscience. Dylan Flaherty (talk) 06:56, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You obviously did misunderstand completely. This WikiProject is not a fringe view platform. It is merely a group of editors who work on YEC-related articles. Editors can agree or disagree with YEC. This just helps organize articles that talk about Young-earth creationism. Understand?--Novus Orator 07:00, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I'm a bit dense, but no. Don't we already have a real wikiproject for pseudoscience? Dylan Flaherty (talk) 07:06, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) There are instructions on the page for adding proposals for new WikiProjects. These appear not to have been followed. [2] There is a box which creates a proposal page, etc, etc. Click on the other examples to see what's intended. Mathsci (talk) 07:07, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help and will do! We could use editors like you on this project..--Novus Orator 07:09, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Successfully proposed. Please move all discussion to here.--Novus Orator 07:13, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject cleanup listing

[edit]

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:38, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the assistance..--Novus Orator 05:36, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This WikiProject is in the process of attracting new members, and its continued existence counters WP:Systemic bias on Wikipedia...--Novus Orator 06:21, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
