Unconstructive edit

I have evidence that is it is not meatless monday but meatless tuesday on the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meatless_Monday.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that...I just thought that since the article was called Meatless Monday, that was what it always was. The Arbiter 01:02, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Re: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miami_Ballpark&curid=19502495&diff=400587812&oldid=400587752 this edit here, it's obviously vandalism, but it may also be prognosticating! I have a feeling it may no be long before we see such an name. :( - BilCat (talk) 02:08, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Slow loris section assignment

I apologize, but it looks like I made a bad judgment call when outlining the sections. I don't think we're going to have much information about the ecology of the slow lorises, and what does exist will probably fall under "Diet" and "Predator avoidance". Therefore I'm going to merge the sections into "Behavior and ecology". We may need to have the 3 people interested in specific and general sections in "Behavior" divide it up.

I realize that this is the second collaboration project where your section got screwed up, and I'm very sorry. We'll work something out. – VisionHolder « talk » 22:07, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Haha it’s fine, I did some research and was confused when I couldn’t find much on the ecology of slow lorises. Let’s see if we can find another part for me to write. Worst case scenario, maybe I can just proofread and make minor edits to stuff, but if we could find me a section, that would be best. Cheers! The Arbiter 23:04, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
By the way we really need to organize the talk page…people are posting everywhere and it’s hard to know who’s doing what. The Arbiter 23:49, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
I tried to organize the talk page by breaking it into subsections, but people just started posting on the bottom. You can lead a horse to water.... Anyway, "Cultural references" and "Anatomy and physiology" have not been claimed. I'm hoping we can dig up something regarding cultural references from southeast Asia, but I'm not sure how difficult that will be. And I can always help with the anatomy stuff. Would either or both interest you? And, btw, you don't need to tell me you replied on my talk page. Once I've posted to your talk page, I watch for replies. – VisionHolder « talk » 06:58, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I watchlist everything too...I have too many pages on my watchlist to handle lol. I think I posted on the talk page that I would do "predator avoidance" and zoo captivity handling. But since I'm of Asian descent, I will gladly do cultural references too! (I can give up one of the other ones for that.) The Arbiter 15:13, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
If you do "Cultural references", you may or may not need to mention the YouTube video. It just depends on whether or not you can find a good source that discusses either its popularity or its impact on the exotic animal trade for these species... or both. It may also get a little confusing because their use in traditional medicine falls under both the conservation and cultural references, so we'll have to work together to divide that material up. – VisionHolder « talk » 16:10, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

By the way... were you needing the PDF copies of some of the sources I have? I noted it on the Slow Loris talk page. Anyway, just email me through Wiki and I'll gladly send them to you. I don't have PDFs of every source, but for the ones that offer short bits of information, I can easily copy a few pages. – VisionHolder « talk » 22:37, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes please, that would be great! So, I’ll do “conservation”, but should I also do “Predator Avoidance”? I’ll email you. The Arbiter 23:52, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I was going to try to do "Conservation" because both that and the evolution section should be fairly short. "Cultural references", however will need someone, although it will overlap a bit with the conservation material. Basically, if you can find specifics about how people in southeast Asia use their body parts in medicine, that would help a lot. (If there are other cultural references, they would be a great find, too.) Then in the conservation section, I will state more briefly that they are just used in traditional medicine without going into much detail. "Predator avoidance" may also need someone, although that needs to be worked out with Sasata and Rlendog. Anyway, the PDFs have been sent. If you have any questions or comments, just ask. – VisionHolder « talk » 01:58, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! I’ve asked Sasata and Rlendog whether “Predator avoidance” is open. One thing though…around this time is the holidays, so around Christmas I won’t be as active, since I have stuff to do. I’ll try to keep editing though. Cheers, The Arbiter 00:00, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello, this is AppleTard and I would love to be adopted by you. --AppleTard (talk) 18:05, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Great! Feel free to ask me for help on anything you might need. Cheers, The ArbiterTalk 23:36, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
And thanks for joining WikiProject Zoo! The ArbiterTalk 02:52, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm kind of understanding this but it's taking some time, it's also very hard on knowing what to writing about in articles because there are so many thing already been written. AppleTard (talk) 20:52, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know the feeling. Various WikiProjects have Article Request Pages. You might also look at Wikipedia:Articles for Creation. The main thing is, whatever you decide to write an article about must be notable. For me, I spend a lot of time just expanding existing articles that are stub-class. Ask me if you need anything! The ArbiterTalk 22:13, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

New Signature

I see you have a new signature, I will have to study it and try and remember its yours as I am so very use to your old one. Cheers for the Christmas greeting also. Merry Christmas ZooPro 09:30, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Announcement

Hello! I'm The Arbiter, one of the coordinators for WikiProject Zoo. I am proud to announce the launch of a new portal: Portal:Zoos and Aquariums! ZooPro, ZooFari, and I worked hard to create a new portal for information on zoos, aquariums, and the associated projects and articles on Wikipedia. If you could head on over, take a look at our work, and maybe learn some more about zoos and Wikiproject Zoo, it would be great! Cheers and Happy Editing!

Style suggestion

Hello Arbiter. I have been on the lookout for a Christmas message to leave on the talk page for editors that I have had good interactions with this year. I saw the one that you left on Donlammers talk page. I liked it very much except for one thing - the white lettering on the light pink background was very difficult to read. I tried putting in red lettering and I thought that it looked Christmassy. I most certainly am not here asking you to change what you've created in any manner. I just wanted to give you some food (fruitcake?) for thought. Cheers of the season to you and continued happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 03:55, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi MarnetteD! I don't know, maybe our computers have different color settings, but it looks clear enough for me. Anyways, I'll change it to a deeper red. Thanks for the info! The ArbiterTalk 23:50, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I have a habit of forgetting just how different things can look from one computer to the next so apologies for sending you in the wrong direction. Thanks for your understanding and I hope that you have a great holiday season and happy editing in 2011. MarnetteD | Talk 04:22, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Huh? I don't get it. The ArbiterTalk 01:34, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I have no idea either, seems like he has just randomly sent this weird message. ZooPro 02:11, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey Arbiter

AppleTard wanted me to tell you, that she will be gone for the winter holidays and will be back around Jan 4-7. She also wanted me to wish you a Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas. (= DuskClops (talk) 05:50, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey DuskClops! Thanks for the notice, she's definitely a great adoptee, as I'm sure she's a great, well, um, future wife. By the way why is your username DuskClops? The ArbiterTalk 01:29, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
I had been asking myself if I should ask you the same question. Why is your name the Arbiter? Is it from the halo series? My name DuskClops because I love to pokemon DusClops but I only realized that I spelled it wrong afterwards but I like it anyways. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DuskClops (talkcontribs) 06:09, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, partially from the Halo series, partially because I think it sounds cool, and partially becasue the word Arbiter means "judge", "dispute resolver", etc. Well I don't know much about pokemon beyond what I learned by playing pokemon crystal many years ago, but I asked my pokemon loving friend about Dusclops, and he told me to tell you that "Dusclops sucks, Darkrai powns all." Not sure what that means, but I'm sure you do. :) By the way make sure you sign your posts with ~~~~. Cheers, The ArbiterTalk 16:10, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Re

The Frick Museum announced today that it is now open free to the public on Thursdays. Why is adding this information to the article unconstructive? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.39.35.50 (talk) 17:02, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

That's really not an important fact..I was using an automated vandalism reverter...it just looked like vandalism. The ArbiterTalk 17:05, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Please explain what I did wrong

I'm still trying to understand what I did that was so wrong, and since you said I made a mistake, maybe you could explain it? My reply to the discussion is here. Kuguar03 (talk) 03:27, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

From and outside opinion I would say you were claiming you were being "smeared" and yet the evidence suggested otherwise. Please assume more good faith in editors as the editors in question are experienced and trusted in the community and would not willingly attack anyone. You have done nothing "majorly" wrong if you had you would have been warned accordingly, I think you have over reacted to a simple and minor issue. Cheers and Kind regards. ZooPro 03:47, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
But what did I do wrong? Nominating an article for deletion that was ultimately not supported? Editors nominate articles for deletion all the time. Some nominations are supported, some aren't. How does publicly chastising a nominator when one isn't supported for their "lack of judgment" contribute to the building of an encyclopedia? Kuguar03 (talk) 05:55, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
And for the record, I've been on wikipedia far longer than the editors in question. In fact, the one who first attacked me had been on wikipedia for a little over 1 week. Perhaps it's not their first account, I don't know. But your comment illustrates exactly the problem: maybe editors shouldn't be criticizing others for their hastiness and inexperience with no evidence when they themselves are acting hastily and are inexperienced? Kuguar03 (talk) 06:02, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I think we need to assume some good faith here, I cannot see that you actually did anything wrong nor did anyone else. You tagged an article it was rejected you were notified of this rejection, Simple. I would suggest just walking away and taking a deep breath and move on from the incident. ZooPro 11:12, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
In your previous edit you did say I did something wrong, and I was also told I did something wrong by 2 other editors here and here. Now, I don't think it's so wrong to want to know what I did wrong, and since you claim to be wanting to help me, why won't you tell me? Kuguar03 (talk) 21:38, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, this is what everyone has been trying to tell you. NOTHING you did was "so wrong". Piast93 and everyone else all see your value as a Wikipedia editor. Now, here's what happened.

  1. You see an article on a subject you are fairly familiar with, so you nominate it for deletion because you don't see the notability.
  2. The consensus goes against you, and the consensus is to Keep.
  3. Now, Piast93 tells you that maybe you shouldn't be so hasty in nominating articles for Afd. Not bad advice at all. If it was a personal attack, he would have said something like "You are such an idiot. Why don't you freakin stop putting articles up for deletion and actually try to HELP the encyclopedia?!?! Don't think you know so much...you aren't the only guy who knows anything." I'm pretty sure that is not anything like what he said. As ZooPro said, just take a deep breath, and realize that everyone on Wikipedia receives constructive criticism from time to time. If you don't believe that, try having an RFA. I can tell you from personal experience that your actions truly get picked apart and discussed a little more than you would like. :) Cheers! The ArbiterTalk 01:21, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's nice to see such back peddling, though it would be better if you explicitly acknowledged that I did nothing wrong and that you were wrong to attack me. You still insist that I did something wrong but won't tell me what it is. As I've indicated, I was not in the least bit hasty in nominating the article, so Piast93's actions were completely out of line, and if you can't see that you have no business being on wikipedia. That's friendly advice; attacking other editors for contributing to wikipedia is completely nonconstructive. You owe me a huge apology for wasting my time with these attacks. Kuguar03 (talk) 21:31, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
There’s a problem with that, and the problem is that NO ONE attacked you. And there WAS something you did wrong. What you did wrong was pursuing this whole “personal attack” stuff and not let it go. I’ll say this and then I’m done. Nobody attacked you. The ArbiterTalk 00:03, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Wow, I can't believe you're being so ridiculous when you could have ended this anytime, but I responded to your ANI. Sad really that you're doing this so needlessly. I'll never understand what motivates people like you. I'm here to build an encyclopedia. Kuguar03 (talk) 01:06, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Great! So are we! The ArbiterTalk 21:10, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
