What am I?

[edit]

It seems if you belive in evolution your liberal atheist, and if you belive in creationism, your a christain religious nut. I belive in both, because evidence for evolution is overwhleming, but I feel life could never have been created on its own. My question is, what does that make me?--The Republican 23:54, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

- May I suggest you give a look into this conception? Best regards. --GalaazV 07:46, 22 September 2005 (UTC) God#The_Rosicrucian_conception_of_God_and_the_scheme_of_evolution.[reply]
There's nothing wrong with a devoted Christian believing in evolution; the two are not mutually exclusive (unless you're talking about fundamentalist Christianity). It is completely acceptable for a Christian to believe that God directed the creative process...whatever it was. Genesis 1 and/or 2 need not always be interpreted literally. Hope this helps; feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. KHM03 11:16, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How do you get the Γ?

[edit]

How do you get this Γ walugi symbol? Is it some sort of werid key combo? Oh, and if your wondering on how I got the symbol, I copyed and pasted it from the waluigi article.

Don't know anything about that; try asking Essjay on his talk page; he's one of Wikipedia's finest administrators and an all-around helpful soul. KHM03 19:56, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't know either. There used to be a box below the edit box that had unusual symbols in it, but I don't see it anymore. (I may have accidentally removed it from my display when I made some changes to my CSS.) If you have such a box, try checking there. Otherwise, my guess is that cut-paste is the best answer. You might try Wikipedia:Help Desk, there are a lot of knowledgable people there. -- Essjay · Talk 23:03, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I recently found out that Γ is the Uppercase letter Gamma in the Greek Alphabet.--The Republican 23:11, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So that means that Tropical Storm Gamma should be spelled like this : Γamma. Right? Funnybunny 22:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. The Republican 01:23, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe there is a key kombo.. I think this key combo is pi:π Funnybunny 01:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As a side note, re: your Einstein quote...
“It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.”Albert Einstein, in a letter March 24, 1954; from Albert Einstein the Human Side, Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, eds., Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1981, p. 43.

"Sounds like she picked the more deadly disaster to try and fix." Yes, a natural disaster involving only victims and mother nature and a geopolitical conflict certainly are perfectly comparable! Intellectual dishonesty ahoy. Kade 22:05, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I got the quote from the following story. The Republican 03:11, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!" "God created everything? The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light." The professor sat down.

The young man's name — Albert Einstein''. The Republican 03:09, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just did a quick bit of research on the above Einstein quote, and it would appear that the story above is unsubstantiated, and is considered an urban legend by Snopes. There is another brief mention at TruthOrFiction.com. The best site for Einstein's religious beliefs though appears to be here. PocketMumble 10:19, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I just though it was an intersting quote. The Republican 01:40, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I picked that quote for 2 reasons. One, I wanted to see how long it would take before someone figured that out. Second, I belive in the quote. I belive God did'nt create evil, and that is a good explanation. The Republican 02:41, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Its a damn good story. Of course life becomes much simpler if you just learn to believe in an evil god.--mitrebox 04:24, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You added the statement about g-strings back to the Calvin and Hobbes article despite the consensus on the talk page that you are making an inference based on a misinterpretation of a single word in a single strip. So, I am reverting your edit. If you still think the statement belongs, please explain your reasons (be sure to cite specific strips and address the counter-arguments) on the talk page before restoring your edits to the article. Thanks. Alanyst 18:35, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I do remeber reading that his dad said "thongs" while serching through a bag on the camping trip were it rains until they leave. It's in the 10 anneversery collection(I own it). The Republican 18:57, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You ought to read the C&H talk page then, because that specific point was discussed there. In brief (no pun intended), "thong" can also be a term for "sandal", which is much more likely to be the correct interpretation in the context of a camping trip, especially for a comic strip appearing in family newspapers in the '80's. Fair use criteria

Well, they vandalized my userpage, what would you do in a situation like that! The Republican 00:31, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newly created userbox.

[edit]

Take a look at my new userbox (I put it at the top of the other userboxes). If you like, you can add it to your userpage. I also agree to what you said on the debate. MarkSweep is a vandal and should be banned. Funnybunny 01:26, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also chose the colors of that userbox because i'm mad about MarkSweep breaking into multiple userpages and deleting several userboxes. I took a look at the debate and wrote a little something. Maybe it's going to make MarkSweep think real good about userbox deletion. Funnybunny 01:29, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I put it on my page, and I love it! The Republican 00:29, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. hope he gets the point. The Republican 02:06, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that we're the only ones standing up to him. Nobody's making campaign speeches (like mine) about userboxes on his talk page nor putting the anti-deletion userbox on their userpage. Them cowards! Funnybunny 03:01, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Check it out! Someone put the "antiuserboxdeletion" userbox on their userpage! (That's a mouthful of user's in that sentence) Go check it out for yourself right here. At least one person on Wikipedia can step up to MarkSweep.Funnybunny 01:26, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recreating deleted pages

[edit]

Please don't recreate deleted pages (especially after RfD). If you dissagree, take it to deletion review. Thank you. BrokenSegue 02:51, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh by the way, You listed Image:President Peter.png as PD, yet it contains many fair use pictures. Commons is not the appropriate place for such images. Also, since fair use images are not allowed on user pages (I seee you have one [Dr. Evil], when I am doine writing this I will remove it, no hard feelings) it doesn't belong here either. You might want to get it hosted at a 3rd party site. BrokenSegue 03:00, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you people plese stop editing my userpage? President Peter is my own work, and you have no right removing it or anything on my userpage! The Republican 03:02, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend you read fair use. Did you draw all of the pictures? No. Do you own the copyright on all of those pictures? No. Thus you can't own the rights to the whole picture (as you don't own the rights to all of its parts). I'm no lawyer and my explanation may be crude, but I know I am right. You might want to clarify the issue with someone you believe is impartial at the help desk. Also, WP:FU says "Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages." and that is a policy not a guideline. Please note my first message, as well. BrokenSegue 03:06, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You ignored my message and re-uploaded your fairuse message. Please respond. I have taken down the picture again. If you continue to defy policy without trying to defend your position, you will find yourself blocked. BrokenSegue 03:04, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Someone else removed the picture from the macromedia fireworks article as it was not relevant. BrokenSegue 22:32, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do you create sub-pages?

[edit]

Sorry I didn't answer your question on my talk page, but I thought that discussion was dead. Anyway, to make a sub-page, you need to go to your user page and edit it. Type [[/subpagetitle]]. You should type the title of your sub-page inside the brackets. Be sure to add the /. Now, follow the redlink on your user page and edit that page. You now have a sub-page! Funnybunny 13:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know the reason for the club's deletion? Maybe we should protest about it.Funnybunny 21:45, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, it isn't a club. Second, yeah, we should protest. The Republican 22:28, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated your image at Image:President Peter.png for deletion, and have decided not to leave you with the regular bot template, as I've noticed recent discussion regarding the same image.

I understand where you're coming from in arguing that you created the image. However, remember that Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation owns the copyright to Peter, Stewie, Chris, and Brian Griffin, New Line Cinema owns the characters from Austin Powers, Lucasfilm owns the characters from Star Wars, and so on. You've actually made what is called a "derivative work" of copyrighted property — this is something you can't call your own.

Since it has little to no encyclopedic value, it can't stay on Wikipedia as a "fair use" image. To be considered "fair use," we need an encyclopedic rationale for use in an article. Because your image doesn't fall under this criteria, it must be deleted. You are certainly allowed to have images on your user page, but it must be an image either in the public domain or released under a free license, which this, unfortunately, is not.

Let me know if you have any further questions or if I've been unclear in any way. If you have any further questions about an image to place on your user page, don't hesitate to drop me a message. Thanks. — Rebelguys2 talk 05:41, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Im looking to get the list featured which means all the images need to have their fair use explained, as the episode listing only has the very briefest of summaries covering the main plot thats what the picture needs to illustrate. An article needs to discuss the image in some way for it to be fair use, pictures of gags are fine in the episode's individual article as long as the text talks about it in some way. [edit]

Thanks for your clairifcation on President Peter. But how come whenever I put a funny image on my userpage, some admin goes and removes it? I think they are totaly abuseing thier power. The Republican 01:56, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When an image is removed from your user page, it's because it somehow violates either copyright law or Wikipedia's policy regarding copyright. It's not always an admin that does it; anyone is able to remove the images from your page, as they are technically a copyright violation. It's courteous to leave you a message, and allow you time to remove the image yourself, but there is no real obligation to do so.
I know it sounds like kind of a silly rule. However, it is the unnegotiable policy of the Wikimedia Foundation (those in charge of Wikipedia), devised by its lawyers as the most reasonable solution to protect against copyright infringement. I appreciate your understanding; let me know if you have any more concerns. — Rebelguys2 talk
