Tljeffers: I have just made a change in the edits you added to the "Dover Beach" page which by and large I thought were exceedingly good. But the reference to "friendly fire" was just too anachronistic to let stand. Not only did the Greeks have few weapons (if any) that would have been "fired," the phrase minimizes the effect of the passage which is meant to suggest something out of the ordinary, not something that fits nicely into a common phrase, a phrase that, to my ear at least, rings a bit too much of modern journalese.
