Lakes
[edit]Hi Torbjørn,
In the list of lakes, since we exclude Lake Maracaibo as being an inlet rather than a true lake, should we exclude Lake Melville as well? — kwami (talk) 17:36, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
I was a little surprised that Melville was included. I too compared it with Maracaibo. If it's up to me: remove it. Melville is a kind of a sill-fiord. Meromictic. Sill about 35 meters deep. Average depth about 102 meters (according to volume divided with area). It got a surplus of fresh water. Fresh surface masses and a salty deep. Melville is like a deeper version of the Azov sea. I didn't include Melville in the lists on Wikipedia: Lakes by mean depth (100 meters +) or Lakes by volume (100 km3 +). I did much work on these in july and august. A little bit on: Lakes by maximum depth as well. I'm almost finished now. Couldn't find maximum depth on: Amadjuak and Dubawnt. The length of the lakes doesn't interest me. Thanks for the feedback, Kwamikagami.

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of lakes by depth, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page La Paz Department. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit]An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Røssvatnet, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Helgøya.
(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 06:07, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- I added the link to, Helgøya because it's the largest island within a lake in Norway. Røssvatnet has the second largest island within a lake in Norway, namely: Røssvassholmen. So it has a logical explanation.
- Best regards. Torbjørn Ekholm (talk) 06:37, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

- I just copied the "style" of earlier author. With Fjord lake and my edit: Tidal lake. Big first letter. Fjord lake isn't a lake, but a type of lake. Tidal lake isn't a lake, but influenced by the tidal movement of water in- and out. You're free to change it, if wanted. Don't want to create any misunderstandings. Dead links
[edit]Most of the references you are adding don't work when clicked on. Also, you can't use wikipedia as a source, even if it's from a different language wikipedia. Masterhatch (talk) 13:02, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- My delivered information is found on the mentioned sites. I'm not very educated in how to make references, work properly. My duty is to find verified facts and information. It's a lot of work to read all these reports, and perhaps find relevant information. I have imported much facts from norwegian wikipedia. My time on wikipedia is almost over. Gonna hold: lakes by maximum depth, mean depth and volume under surveillance. That's all. Gonna finish my cooperation with "Store Norske Leksikon" (Great Norwegian Encyclopedia) as well. I've almost finished my own private "encyclopedia" about the deep lakes now, as well. My stepping out, has to do with AI. If the link doesn't work, the report from the mentioned site does. I'm just hunting truth. No feelings or personal involvement. Best regards from, Torbjørn Ekholm. Torbjørn Ekholm (talk) 13:35, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Here's some guides to help with referencing: Help:Referencing for beginners and Wikipedia:Citing sources. It's great you're improving lake articles but the links you use for references should not be dead links. After you make an edit where you added a source, click on said source. If it's boken (for example, has a message such as "404 - link not found") try and fix the link. The Help:Referencing for beginners has some great tips on how to link. As I said before, you can't use the Norwegian Wiki as a source (or any other wikipedia article). And lastly, you said you are "stepping out" from Wikipedia. I encourage you to stay. Masterhatch (talk) 16:33, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I never foresaw that I was going, to be a big contributor to the wikipedia. I discovered wrong "facts". Tried to get rid of these. I've done my best, securing quality. What shall you do, when the "source" got wrong information ?. I've been discussing truth with norwegian wikipedia as well (bokmål and nynorsk). All they want is an authorative source. A "good" story about that: the world cup in football 1930 (the first one). Uruguay won, 4 - 2 over Argentina. The bronze final wasn't played at all. The losing semifinalists were: the USA and Yugoslavia. After over 50 years, FIFA declared that, the USA had won the bronze medal. Mafia methods. In my overview of the world cup, the bronze medal is divided by the two countries. I'm standing for objectivity and the truth. Gonna keep a sharp eye on the interesting lakes. My personal "encyclopedia" is an overview of "cryptodepressions". That means that the deepest point reaches below the sea level. One for Norway, and one for the world. Quite unique idea. There isn't a such overview on wikipedia. Just examples. I'm NOT gonna share it either. I've used wikipedia a lot to make it. The work started in mid may last year. Several hundreds (thousands ?) hours of work. In many ways, no one deserve this information for free. My connections in the norwegian: Mapping Authority and the Polar Institute has shown interest. The Great Norwegian Encyclopedia, as well. Now I'm the king of the hill (got the upper hand). Why hasn't anyone thought of this matter before ?. I don't know. The cryptodepressions are dominating in the lists of the, deepest lakes. Of the 42 lakes with known, maximum depth over 400 metres; 31 are "cryptos". I have sorted them in three groups. 1) maximum depth (all that reaches over 200 metres below sea level. In Norway over 100 metres). 2) average depth, the "super-cryptos" (all that reaches over 100 metres below sea level. In Norway over 25 metres). 3) elevation (all with surface, at least 200 metres above the sea level. In Norway over 100 metres). The lakes with surface under the sea level, are collected in own overview (also in the three mentioned "exercises"). Hope that I can finish this project some time next year. Got many hobbies (passions), the lakes is only one of them. After completion, I guess it won't be much thoughts about lakes anyway. I'm just a pensioner. Drove the truck, and worked as a garbageman for many years. Gonna sit down, smoke and drink beer; and listen to old heavy-metal. I'm almost 57 years old. Geography has been a dear hobby since 1976. 48 years of experience. Haven't got the time to be a big contributor, on wikipedia anyway. All the work is done with cellphone (got two). As I said before, gonna have the three mentioned lists under surveillance (maximum depth, mean depth and volume). Now I have been active for 8 to 9 days. Tomorrow isn't a "wiki-day". Nothing to do with you. Did some "discoveries" the last days, these are shared now. I'm not completely "stepping" out. A more passive role. The only updates on the mentioned lists (new lakes), since 2022; are done by me. Have a nice evening. Best regards from, Torbjørn Ekholm. Torbjørn Ekholm (talk) 20:07, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- I almost feel like I'm talking to my clone! I'm just over 50, a truck driver (in the oil field), heavy rock rules, and I've been fascinated by geography since I was a young kid. While I like to drink, I quit smoking years ago and I'm not quite ready to retire. Best of luck to you in your lake encyclopedia endevours! Masterhatch (talk) 20:27, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Good for me, to come in connection with you. If you want to, we can perhaps communicate a little. I'm a very down to earth person. Don't like so much attention. I like the old masters of heavy-metal. My top three are: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Accept. Plus several other bands and artists. Like other music as well. In late september 2022, I was on concert with: U.D.O. Great to see, the one and only: Udo Dirkschneider on stage. And in my hometown (about 24 000 inhabitants). He also had concert in the neighbouring community in 2012. Good to have a "clone". Got my own flat (56 sq.m.). Almost no debt. Full of: books, movies and music. Storage room full of: tools (electric and manual). Sweetheart lady down in Oslo. Hope you get a pleasant evening, and a good day at work. Best regards from, Torbjørn "Clone" Ekholm. - Great taste in music. I'm partial to bands such as Motley Crue, AC/DC, Bon Jovi (his older stuff), Nickelback, Bryan Adams, The Police, BTO, and The Northern Pikes to name a few. Seems we both live in small towns. I live in a town of about 12,000 people. Good talking to you. You can always leave a message on my talk if you need anything. Or you can email me. Masterhatch (talk) 23:18, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- BTO. Bachman Turner Overdrive. Perhaps you're from Canada ?. The land of lakes. I've done a lot of work with them. 60% of the world's lakes are in this country. About 14% of the lakes larger than 500 sq.km. are situated there. I haven't any albums with BTO. Great music though. Albums from canadian artists- and bands in my collection: April Wine, Rush, Leonard Cohen, Mahogany Rush (with Frank Marino) and Saga. The Wilson sisters are almost canadian also (Heart). I have forgotten some, almost for sure. Several hundreds of albums. Heard an old band from Canada, on YouTube. Chilliwack, great band. "Runaway" with Bon Jovi is very good. Motley Crue ain't my style, got one album (Theatre of Pain). AC/DC very mainstream. Bryan Adams soft music and ballads. Good. The Police very good. The singer has been here too. I like very much, old Van Halen. Not Van Hagar. Perfect songs for barbecue and beer: "Dance the Night Away" and "Where Have All the Good Times Gone" (cover of The Kinks). Recommended bad ass dude music. The album: "Born Again", Black Sabbath (1983). Often called Deep Sabbath. The singer is, Ian Gillan former Deep Purple. He's almost destroying his brilliant voice. Play it loud in your truck. Change you're name to: Rusty Nail (Joyride). Say to sweet hitch-hikers: "just get in". Love horror-stuff. Have a good day at work, man. Gonna eat something simple now. Watch the news. Go to bed. Sleep very long. Best regards from, Torbjørn Ekholm (Tobz, my sweetheart calls me that). She is from, Trinidad and Tobago. Came to Norway in 1993. Good night.
