I just wanted to let you know that there are copyright problems with Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Tradition since it was copied directly from http://www.ayurveda.gov.lk/history.htm. Unfortunately this poses a potential Copyright problem and will likely be deleted. Please contact me if you have any questions. (You can find out more about the copyright policy here: Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ) -- MicahMN | μ 00:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure about the copyright laws in regards to what the Sri Lankan government puts out, but at the bottom of that page it states, "Copyright © 2005 Nimal Abewardana" I will move it to the Copyright problems page to be debated instead of flagging it for speedy deletion. -- MicahMN | μ 00:16, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
One of the trickiest things on wikipedia is copyright issues. We more or less must assume that something is copyrighted unless we know for sure that it isn't. For example, most works producted by the United States Federal Government are released into the public domain, but many other countries do not. I apologize for the confusion over a the use of material for commercial pages (I didn't know that was in the template, I was following instructions from: WP:CP). I was doing a little research, and I can't find anything stating that any produced by the Sri Lankan government is released into the public domain. On top of that, there was the notice at the bottom that it was copyrighted, so I'm going to continue with flagging the article. You can, however, write a version of the article using your own words or information that is clearly in the public domain. There is a big red link to do that on the Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Tradition page. I'm sorry if this is all a little confusing, I ran into a problem like this when I first started with Wikipedia. We'll get it all sorted out, but keep up the good work. -- MicahMN | μ 00:29, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I nominated this for speedy deletion because it is a possible copyright violation of the following website: Mihintale. You might want to rewrite the article or show that the copied material was freely available. Thanx. TheRingess 06:57, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I read your message. I'm not an administrator, so I'm not the one you have to convince. In general, you should probably assume that any material is copyrighted until specifically told otherwise. Your note mentioned that it didn't say the material was copyrighted, but you made no mention that the website specified that the information could be freely distributed, copied and edited. There is a distinction. TheRingess 14:42, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Like MicahMN says above, we cannot assume that copyright does not apply on a web site unless it's explicitly stated. You have two options: one is to contact the webmasters of lankalibrary.com and find out what the copyright status is (if it's freely useable, please be sure to note that on the Talk page or on Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 January 3 under the entry for Mihintale); two is to rewrite the article yourself at Mihintale/Temp so that any possible copyright issues are avoided. The copyvio notice is there until someone can get verification with the site's webmaster and have it on record (not just on the Talk page). There's a process to it and it takes a bit of time to get straightened out (I've already listed it under "permission granted"), but it won't get deleted assuming they agree to the licensing terms. howcheng {chat} 21:53, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Sasa.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sasa.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. picture on Anuradhapura

[edit]

Are you sure your picture on Anuradhapura is Ruwanweliseya? Somebody emailed the help desk and says "The stupa Ruwanweliseya is much bigger and there is no mountain in the close vicinity as shown in the picture." David.Monniaux 16:13, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I shall look in to it ..

Unspecified source for Image:1951 1970 1eeww.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:1951 1970 1eeww.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 21:50, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
