[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Courtney Crutcher, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Realkyhick 18:19, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article mas many serious issues.
  1. The subject herself may be notable, but the article is way too long for her level of notability.
  2. The article delves into personal details of her athletic career, particularly coaching, that have no sources to back them up and would be nearly impossible to verify.
  3. It seems obvious that this was written by someone directly connected to the subject, either personally or professionally, or perhaps by the subject herself. This brings up conflict of interest issues.
  4. The article does not have the formal tone of an encyclopedia article.
These issues need attention by the original author, as the article is perilously close to an article-for-deletion procedure at this point. Realkyhick 08:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:N212400349 30387283 3579.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:N212400349 30387283 3579.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:07, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Some editors are attempting to salvage this article, but you are only hurting your cause by deleting the comments they make on the talk page. Such deletions are seen as bad faith. I suggest you cease such actions.
Could you also establish for us what, if any, relationship you have with the subject? Realkyhick 17:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry! I had no idea! I used Courtney as a study subject for an english paper- we had to use a person that we didn't know, but knew of- like for instance someone that went to the same high school or college, contact them, interview, etc. I looked her up on wiki for information and saw it wasnt available. so I thought I would make a wiki page with her listed. theres only been like one person that's known for an olympic type sport come from BHS. I just thought she should be listed. I dont know much about wiki so I'm just trying to figure it outas i go. Thanks

Hey, no problem. Sorry if I came across a little strong. I guess I assumed that, with the user name "Triswimcoach" that you might be Courtney's coach, or a coach that works alongside her somehow. The article was well-written for an English paper, but unfortunately that's not the same tone and style as an encyclopedia article. The larger problem is that we need sources from newspapers, magazines, reliable web sites and such so that people can verify what is written. It helps Wikipedia's credibility. If you have some articles that you know of that are about Courtney that you could cite, that would help. We'll hold off on any action to give you a little time.
We have problems here at Wikipedia with people who write articles about other people, or frequently themselves, in an effort to promote someone. If the person meets notability standards, it's not too much of a problem. But many times they aren't notable, and many volunteer Wikipedia editors spend a great deal of time weeding those out so that we don't become just a fancy version of Myspace. Every one of those editors started out the same way you have (often embarrassingly worse, especially in my case), so don't worry about anything. It's Wikipedia, so we can fix it. Feel free to ask any and all questions you may have, and there really are no stupid questions. Realkyhick 19:01, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I actually kind of stole the "triswimcoach" thing from courtney. i wasnt planning on making a bunch of pages, so i just thought I'd use that since I was doing one on her. I have tried to edit it to make is sound less "magazine article" and more "encyclopedia." Someone said it was "too long for notability" so I tried to correct it to make it shorter and just state facts, not my style of writing. I do have some litte article things of her from some sports newspapers, and from the high school paper when she went to school here. They're not online though. How do I go about citing them? I might ask my teacher for help. Also, that's why I found that ICU tag. I figured maybe SOMEbody could help me. Thanks for being constructive.

You cite them the same way you would a source that does have an online link, but without the link. See WP:REF for more info on how you do references on Wikipedia. The high school newspaper may not carry much weight as far as being a reliable source, but the others likely would. Let me know if you need help. Realkyhick 16:18, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Courtney Crutcher

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Courtney Crutcher, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ATHLETE - is not a professional or elite level athlete - age-group triathlon and masters swimming at a national level is neither. Does not appear to be notable for any other reason.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
