Please do not have your students add red link categories, like Category:Uncommon leaders, on to articles. It just means that other editors on Wikipedia must spend time removing them. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:39, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Articles being moved without review

Hello Deb,
Yes, my students did all of the WikiEdu trainings and did their very best to create their pages. They are now working to finalize them and have been submitting them for review. Unfortunately, a couple of them were deleted immediately, with no recourse to rewrite. This has been very frustrating for my students. We have been doing pages on women and people of color in science, and it is something that we appreciate help in getting the pages up to par. Thank you and best wishes! It sounds like they weren't informed that they should create articles in draft space and wait for a review by more experienced editors. They should never move them straight from the sandbox into article space claiming that they are "ready" - deletion will frequently be the result, because so many of these articles don't meet the criteria for inclusion. @Deb, Wiki Education is not supposed to have students use draft space or AfC. Can you imagine the chaos that would cause for reviewers at the end of every semester? Instead they do their work in user sandbox space and it is graded there. Only after the instructor has approved it do they move it to article space. There is orientation and training for instructors. Given that there are over 300 courses running at a time we have very few problems.
@UncommonLeaders, it seems like your course last year flew under the radar and is now running into problems. Wikipedia does not have articles about every academic, no matter how admirable they may be. As an encyclopedia we have articles about people who have made significant contributions to their field, above and beyond what most academics do. Wikipedia:Notability (academics) is very clear about this. Your students are writing about early career people, who are great role models for them but aren't at yet the point in their careers where they will have Wikipedia articles. I'm sorry we didn't discover this earlier and come to your aid. There may be a gap in instructor training about making sure biographies meet Wikipedia requirements. Wow Deb, I am really surprised at the many negative assumptions that you have made about me and published them here for everyone to see!! Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Myron Evans II. You were not part of my course or have even seen my syllabus or the discussions that I had with my students, so to attribute this to the course instructor is very biased and way off the mark. Sorry, who are you? You haven't signed. Everything that is contributed to Wikipedia is published "for everyone to see" - that is the whole point of Wikipedia. If you read the page I referred you to, you'll have seen that it wasn't me who nominated the article for deletion and I made only one comment in that discussion. If you are the instructor, why not take this opportunity to improve your approach, rather than attacking those who are attempting to offer constructive advice?
