"Belgian" surnames[edit]

Look at Jan van Eyck, - when he lived there wasn't even a Belgium. Question is if "van" gets capitalised when there isn't a given name. For Beethoven, it isn't . Consider to revert yourself and take the question to the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:30, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits in general[edit]

Hi. I've been watching (and often reverting) your edits for some time now and I think it's about time someone had a little talk with you. It's clear that many, if not most, of your edits are made out of an irrational negative attitude towards anything Dutch and from some illogical Belgium-centered bias. That being said, you can feel that way if you like, but unfortunately your edits are more often than not wrong. Truth is, the name the Netherlands is a generic term for the Low Countries, including the Netherlands in the modern meaning of the word as well as present-day Belgium. Your statement that Belgium already existed in the middle ages and the Netherlands did not is ridiculous. The fact that you repeatedly claim that it was called Leo Belgicus shows you don't know much about the subject; if anything, Leo Belgicus is a map of the entire Low Countries, it was not the name of a country. Here you even claim that 's Hertogenbosch was ever part of Belgium. It never was of course, and neither was Maastricht. Before 1830, there was no Belgium (there were the Spanish Netherlands and the Habsburg Netherlands), other than that name being used for the entire Low Countries, exactly like the Netherlands. And no, of course Maastricht was never a part of Holland either. Do you even know what and where Holland is? I'm sorry to say it, but very few of your many edits have been improvements.
