Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

Blocked

[edit]

Hi @MER-C:,

I've just received notification that my article has been blocked as it's deemed as and advertising only account.

I'm so sorry about this and that certainly wasn't the intention. Could you please let me know what it was that made you come to this decision as I would really like to change this and remove anything that make's the article appear to be advertising. Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Vbrockwell (talk) 10:52, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are blocked because the only reason you are editing Wikipedia is for marketing/public relations purposes re: Hattons of London. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. MER-C 11:05, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, could you please review the decision to block my article. I don't believe there is any advertising or PR related in the article. I'm just presenting the company details so people know who we are like the thousands of other companies listed on wikipedia. I will of course make any changes deemed necessary Vbrockwell (talk) 11:45, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Please show where you did your mandatory paid-editor disclosure. I can't find it. If you have not made one, you are basically not going to be unblocked without agreeing to refrain from editing about Hattons of London and anything else for which you have a conflict of interest. At the moment, it looks like you were warned about this and chose to ignore the warning. Yamla (talk) 12:00, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi @Yamla:,

Thank you for letting me know and explaining the issue. I'm afraid I'm new to wikipedia and assumed that as I'm not being paid and am not a PR company etc, I would not have to do this. I haven't received a warning about it and certainly have not ignored it. I'm so sorry about this.

Is there anyone I can go to for help, especially on how to do a paid editor disclosure - I'm assuming I have to do this whether I am paid or not?

Best regards

Vbrockwell (talk) 14:24, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is not accurate. You were warned here, and that warning is still visible on your page. You are welcome to make a new unblock request, but remember, you will almost certainly not be unblocked to write about Hattons of London. --Yamla (talk) 14:35, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I also see there's a Vbrockwell who works at Hattons of London. If that is you, note that this would directly contradict your claim "I'm not being paid". Even if you aren't drawing a salary, a claim I find extremely unlikely, it wouldn't free you from WP:PAID. You'll need to address this, too, in your unblock request. --Yamla (talk) 14:37, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Yamla:,

Thank you for giving me the link. As I mentioned, I am new to wikipedia and thought that it was the username that was the issue and as it was unblocked after I changed it then everything was ok.

I see regarding payment. So even though I work for the company and get a salary (regardless of whether it's for wikipedia) this still means I have to disclose it. I thought that was if I was a company like a PR agency etc. I really didn't understand this correctly for which I apologise.

I really didn't mean to cause any issues for wikipedia or Hattons of London. It was honestly a misunderstanding on my part.

So basically from what you are saying, there's nothing I can do now?

Best regards

Vbrockwell (talk) 14:45, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are very welcome to make a new unblock request. However, if your only goal is to write about your company, it will almost certainly be declined. If instead you wish to write about subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest, there's a good chance it'll be accepted. --Yamla (talk) 15:03, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Yamla:,

Thank you so much for your help. This has been a huge learning curve for me.

Best regards
