helpmeWhile I've assigned someone in our design unit to explore why we can not seem to download our photos -- I'm really not just trying to expunge our logo, I've been trying to replace it with the one the University now officially uses -- I am more concerned and perplexed about the stated (by Wikipedia) lack of citations for the written articles.

I have added citations wherever the need was noted, and yet the citation boxes remain. It would help to know specifically which text still requires a citation.

While I love Wikipedia for my personal use, it is one pain in the NECK having my university wanting me to maintain the site when I can't embed our own university-owned photos or get rid of those lousy BOXES.

Yours truly, VReda Vreda (talk) 20:06, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added citations in the two places -- in the rankings -- where I think they were asked for. Can I get some feedback on that?

Also, the two images in question -- of the East Campus and CNSE -- are both owned completely by the University and administered with totally legality by my office, Communications and Marketing. So, I am uncertain as how you need me to verify that.

Also, the main photo we keep putting in keeps disappearing, and I think a few others might have as well. These also are owned by the University and administrated by my office.

Let me know what I need to do to resolve this, please.

I happened to notice this post when I was leaving another message below. Ordinarily other people do not watch your user talk page. If you ask a question here, you should call attention to it by adding a helpme tag. Or you could ask at a forum like Wikipedia:Help desk or Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
In reply to your post: Wikipedia has two kinds of images, free and non-free. Free images are in the public domain or licensed under a free license. A free license allows use anywhere not just on Wikipedia. If the copyright owner is willing to grant a free license, see WP:COPYREQ for how to handle it. Use of non-free images is highly restricted; see WP:NFCC for the policy.

Image copyright problem with Image:EastCampus.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:EastCampus.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:26, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems with File:Cleanroom3.jpg[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, File:Cleanroom3.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://cnse.albany.edu/News/index.cfm?InstanceID=573&NewsID=513&step=show_detail. As a copyright violation, File:Cleanroom3.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:Cleanroom3.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:File:Cleanroom3.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:File:Cleanroom3.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
 • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:File:Cleanroom3.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. 68.247.23.90 (talk) 02:39, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyrights[edit]

Thank you for your work. Please note a couple of things. One, we can only use images released under a free license, according to Wikipedia:Image use policy. Thus, it's not enough for you to give permission to use them; they have to be explicitly released as either public domain, GFDL, or the Creative Commons attribution license. Two, please bear in mind that our first priority is the encyclopedia, not the interests of your employer. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for more information. Where the two are compatible, your contributions are welcome, but they may not always be. Thank you. Chick Bowen 00:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Content dispute over UAlbany seal[edit]

I see that you are engageed in a content dispute over whether the University seal should be shown on University at Albany, SUNY‎. You should know that on Wikipedia content disputes are resolved by reaching a consensus on article discussion pages (in this case Talk:University at Albany, SUNY#Fair use for UAlbany Seal). If you still want to remove the seal, you should present your arguments there and attempt to persuade other etitors. —teb728 t c 07:04, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You do not appear to have attempted to engage in discussion concerning this image. Please be aware that the university does not have authority over what we do and do not use on Wikipedia; the image is being used as fair use. I must warn you that further attempts to remove the image may result in your account being blocked.
If the university feels that its copyright is being infringed beyond the scope of fair use, it should email info-en-c@wikimedia.org. Stifle (talk) 19:44, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I notice that in File:Logo A1 pms124 blk 200X148.gif, an image which you uploaded, you claim to be the copyright owner and that you grant a free license, which authorizes anyone to use the image anywhere for anything, including commercial use and modification. I suspect that you are mistaken, that the copyright owner is actually the Board of Trustees, and that they do not grant such a license. Acting on this assumption, I added a non-free logo tag and non-free use rationale. If I am correct that you are not the copyright owner, you should remove your self tag. In any case you may want to re-upload the image under a more descriptive filename. —teb728 t c 23:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
