Nay list

[edit]
  1. No WP:GA (green plus sign) or WP:FA (brown star) articles. These articles are very developed, often have well established consensus, and established editors there might WP:BITE.
  2. No The Holocaust.
  3. Nothing in the hardcore of American Politics (WP:AP2), Gun Control (WP:ARBGC), Arab-Israeli conflict (WP:ARBPIAINTRO, WP:ARBPIA, WP:ARBPIA2, WP:ARBPIA3). If you edit around the edges (e.g. an obscure mayor in Indiana, or Herzliya (has a section on the airport's use as a military base in 1948) - that's OK. But no high profile politicians (e.g. Rashida Tlaib or Donald Trump), terror attacks, wars (e.g. Six-Day War, or 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict), etc. These are areas with a lot of editorial conflict, and special editing rules (e.g. WP:1RR instead of WP:3RR, special page rules).

Aye list

[edit]
  1. Israeli politics (as long as not extremely conflict related - e.g. please avoid Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People).
  2. Libertarian issues (as long as not in AP2).
  3. Israeli companies and ventures (e.g. SpaceIL).

Please run anything else by Icewhiz.

Discussion

[edit]

March 2019

[edit]

@Icewhiz: I'm still in the process of creating a large edit plan, though I'd like to add a couple of things here now:

  1. On Israel - adding to the first sentence and the northern shore of the Red Sea, with a population of just under 9 million. Most country articles mention the population in their first lede section. Also changing the infobox to reflect the population number listed in its own source [1] - 8,985,000 instead of 9,001,990.
  2. On Zionism - changing the first sentence's Zionism (Hebrew: צִיּוֹנוּת Tsiyyonut [t͡sijo̞ˈnut] after Zion) is the national movement of the Jewish people national link from ethnic nationalism to just nation.

These are rather small edits, but since they're on controversial articles (extended-protected), I just thought I'd run them by you before making them. M . M 09:36, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Israel - Cite a source properly - linking to CBS's homepage is a no go, you need to link to one of their publications (e.g. PDF). I would use of "around 9 million" - to avoid changing it in a month or two when it goes over. If anyone reverts you - stop. No additional edits after your get reverted unless I approve them. Both Israel and infoboxes may lead to trouble.
  2. Zionism - try Nationalism. Again - if you get reverted - you stop - no more edits after your initial edit.

What about citing the first source [2] used in Demographics of Israel (maybe also link to that article)?
Edit to Zionism done, added nationalism link. M . M 10:01, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cite a particular publication of the CBS - under "פרסומים ותוצרים". Linking to their homepage is not a proper citation - even if it is done elsewhere. Icewhiz (talk) 10:10, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The article already links and cites in this way, and I plan to improve the body, too. What specifically do you think I should change in the above? M . M 13:05, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Some 75% of your text is wikilinks - which is overlinking. Try putting your updates to the body and infobox first. And the monent anyond else touches the article - no editing for 30 hours. No questions here - even is someone does a totally unrelated change - you do not edit for 30 hours - this article is under strict 1RR.Icewhiz (talk) 14:43, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Icewhiz: How about this? With a population of around 9 million,[12] Israel is a developed country and an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member,[2] and has the 31st-largest economy in the world by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2017.[13][14] Israel has the highest standard of living in the Middle East,[5] and ranks among the world's top countries by percentage of citizens with military training,[15] women's safety,[16] life expectancy,[17] percentage of citizens holding a tertiary education degree,[9] innovativeness,[18] and happiness.[19]
Note: Some of this doesn't fit in the infobox - yet it's relevant to include in the lede's bottom paragraph as per country articles such as the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, etc. M . M 13:32, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure you update the body as well. And no editing the article for 30 hours after you make this change - no ifs or buts here - you don't want to run foul of 1RR. The ARBPIA 1RR hawks will pounce on you in an instant. Icewhiz (talk) 13:35, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I should probably refrain from correcting the 2017 GDP just yet ("32nd" appears to be a typo; the list article says "31st"; although there are conflicting worse-quality sources in the infobox, some of which give incomplete 2019 info). As for updating the body, should I do that in the same edit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by VwM.Mwv (talkcontribs) 13:50, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would start with the body, and then move to the lede. Separate edits. But if anyone jumps in between your edits (even unrelated) - stop for 30 hours. You really don't want to come close to messing with 1RR on Israel.Icewhiz (talk) 13:56, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

June 2019

[edit]

@Icewhiz: I've noticed there's been a lot of discussion on Talk:Israel regarding the infobox map(s), so I created a new one based on things that were brought up there & my own ideas.

Territories controlled and claimed by Israel
Territories controlled but not claimed by Israel

Do you think I should add it now per WP:BOLD, or bring it up on talk first? M . M 15:28, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say float it in talk - it's a rather surefire revert situation, and this has been discussed on talk a few months back (different map).... I'll note that saying Israel does not claim the West Bank is inaccurate - Israel has been generally ambiguous regarding its position on the West Bank (including on the legal side of whether it is occupied or not - applying the international laws of occupation (Geneva) on a voluntary basis). I suspect you'll need to color a few things in that map differently - but..... If you are willing to work with other editors here (and update your map given feedback) - then you might be able strike an improvement here (part of the issue in making such improvements is that few editors are actually willing/able to draw/color the maps).
