upload of more recent file of Clayton's Publication list

I have uploaded this morning May 13,2016 my own edit of Clayton's most recent list of publications, which he has provided to me for anyone to use. I uploaded that file Donald D. Clayton Journal Publications.pdf to the Upload Wizard , but then I lost my way and did not successfully give it a Category (owing to my inexperience). I want this new file to replace the publication list in the last sentence of the Academic History section of the Donald D. Clayton Wikipedia article. That file was cited by a previous editer by citing the html:// provided on Clayton's website for his autobiography; but it is now badly out of date, lacking publications since about 2007. That file was retrieved, probably automatically, onto Wikipedia files. My goal is to replace it by my uploaded file today. But I need help because I do not know how to do that. If whoever can help me do this will reply to this message, I can also email to him the updated file that I intend to replace the original cited file. You can also probably find it in the Uploads of this morning, but that upload is lacking Category completion and may not have been saved. This is WAFred. I don't see that you have uploaded a PDF. It's not among your contributions on Wikipedia (uploaded files would end up in the "File" namespace), nor is it on the Wikimedia Commons. That said, I'm rather skeptical about the purpose this PDF is meant to serve. Something uploaded to Wikipedia is not a reliable source (unlike the subject's own website, which is a primary source but might be used for uncontroversial details such as the publication list). Thus uploading the PDF to Wikipedia won't help improve the article. Huon (talk) 23:59, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Huon,Thanks for help. Easy to describe why the file improves the article. In Biography of a scholar his publication list is one of the most significant encyclopedic entries. Almost mandatory. But the one retrieved from Clayton's website is out of date, with the last decade missing (owing to when Clayton published his autobiography). So replacing the old file with the new one does improve the article. It does not even increase the number of call up files. just replaces. Publication lists are not creative works having copyright. They are public information. I obtained Clayton's up-to-date List from him, and only edited it to be in the same format as the file on his autobiography website (which he probably should update himself). One would remove entirely the citation to that website and replace with something like "Clayton's publication list of refereed journal articles is here". As the editor WAFred I chose to improve the article in this way, but was not adequately experienced at the Wiki techniques. Can I upload the file to you? WAFred (talk) 23:56, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If it's meant to be encyclopedic content you should add the publication list to the article proper, not attach it as an uploaded PDF. However, I disagree with the assertion that a publication list is mandatory for a scholar's biography. Let's check the undisputedly great scholars: Isaac Newton, Henri Poincaré, David Hilbert, Albert Einstein, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Stephen Hawking. Among those articles - which certainly are not of particularly low quality either, with two Good Articles among them - only for Newton, whose publication list is rather short by modern standards, it's given in full. For all others only excerpts, the particularly significant works, are given (and if you think this is a peculiarity of Wikipedia, I dare say without looking that Encyclopaedia Britannica will give even less of a publication list for a scholar). You've "fixed" references multiple times, as in this edit. I'm not sure what exactly it is you're trying to "fix", and I'm not sure you understand what you're trying to fix either, but let me assure you there was nothing there that needed fixing.
