Hi. I respect as always your NPOV contributions. When you have time please see my last 2 edits of Discussion. You have knowledge of the Wikipedia processes which I do not have. Can my edit "Suggestion to administrators" be somehow implemented ? The whole sorry business is demeaning to Wikipedia. It is also demeaning to me to have to use my name in an endevour to ensure an historically correct record of a small but important contribution to medical technology by a small group of people who ,each in their way, contributed to the whole. Should it be not possible, within the rules of Wikipedia, to restrain or stop the continuation of the matter, it would be best that the Article be erased. Hi. I have been working on article Rat poison a bit in the past days, and I would like to move it under Rodenticide. I announced this two times in the discussion page, on 7 October 2006 under the IP adress 84.163.124.102 (not having a valid account at that time yet) and on 15 October 2006, under my username. I gave the reasons for doing so (re-naming the article) and I left enough time for objections and discussion, in my opinion. To be short, I suggest to move the title of the article on Rodenticide with a redirection from Rat poison, because the current title (rat poison) is inaccurate and reffers only to rodenticides (pesticides/biocides used against rodent vermin in general), that are used particullary for extermination of rats; however, the substances described and discussed in the article are used against rodents that are noxious/unwanted in general, i.e. also mice, voles and the like, not only rats. Unfortunately, the article Rodenticide exists already, so I can't move the article under this name/title. If you would allow/make it possible to move the article, I would appreciate it. I would also like to further expand the article and incorporate it into the category Pesticides. I have read the directions to be taken for moving an article under new title, that already exists, and if I have to address this suggestion elswhere than in your talk page, I will do so, and I apologize if this is not the place to discuss this. Hi, your little essays are quite amusing. Do you have a template for them or do you just use stream of consciousness. I think the whole respect your elders debate will be lost on you until you get a few more miles on your odometer (or maybe you can ask your daddy in the EEOC). Your mileage may vary. BTW, I'm the only one that uses that template and it is very small so it causes little strain on the server. Like very many young people, you seem to confuse the definition of discrimination as being solely derogatory. Discrimination comes from the Latin "discriminare", which means to "distinguish between". A fact of life you will learn is that we all discriminate. It is a natural function of life and, indeed, of survival. I tend to take the attitude of "respect your elders." This is something my father taught me and something I wish the parent's of the current pack generation would have taught their children. If you feel slighted that I take your advice with little regard, well that's just too damn bad. But it is certainly not incivil. I would like to see you try to take this issue up in internet court. Hi WAvegitarian,

First of all, I think Wikipedia is excellent and I appreciate your contributions to this project.

I posted the profile of Alert Logic with the guidelines in mind as best I could. The article has three indpendent citations from authorities in the IT security space. It also includes useful info. about the topic from independent sources.

I'm especially interested in the SaaS(software as a service) aspect of the company. In fact, I got the idea of posting a profile of the company after visiting the SaaS page, where there are dozens of companies listed. In my opinion, my profile of Alert Logic is less market-y and more information-filled than most of the other company profiles listed on the SaaS page.

Alert Logic IS a notable company. Clients include Match.com, Columbia College, Rackspace and many more (more than 150 clients in all). A company shouldn't have to be publicly traded to be listed on Wikipedia; In fact many private companies are listed.

Do you have any advice for a newbie? I absolutely agree that advertising has no place on Wikipedia...

Help in setting up ambiguation page

I took a look at the ambiguation page and I'm afraid it's a bit beyond me. I could put a link on the other page as suggested but I think I would prefer a page where both articles are listed. The two conflicting names are Frank McNamara - Music Director and Frank Hubert McNamara (redirected from Frank McNamara). Thank you so much for offering to set it up for me. Maybe as I get more familiar with Wikipedia, I'll be able to figure it out for myself. But at this point, I didn't understand it.

Is it usually against Wikipedia style to include citations to articles that are about related topics but don't mention the subject or topic of the orginal post? I want to provide more substance to the profile that would be of general interest but in a way that abides by the Wikipedia style.

I have no intention of creating an ad for this company. There are few companies that I would feel comfortable adding to Wikipedia. I've never done a profile on company on Wikipedia before and I have no intention of doing it again unless I believe it is a good fit (and as I said, I don't think that happens very often). Trojans, botnets and other network threats are unfortunately a thriving part of the online universe and therefore part of the daily discourse of the blogosphere and elsewhere.

• Hi thanks for your note. I am really not prepared to get involved further with a contributer who hands out abuse as the anon editor who I assume is Gray. I think he should be blocked and his comments refactored. The recent dispute I was involved in Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Gundagai editors has some decisions enforcing principles that are pertinent and dealt similarly with a persistently rude editor using IP addresses:

Civility

1) Wikipedia users are expected to behave reasonably and calmly in their dealings with other users, to Wikipedia:Assume good faith, and to observe Wikipedia:Wikiquette, Wikipedia:Civility, Wikipedia:Writers' rules of engagement, and avoid personal attacks.

Disruptive editing

2) Users who disrupt using aggressive biased editing may be banned from affected articles, in extreme cases from the site.

I think those principles should be applied here. I appreciate you have alredy had an RfC about the article but I think an RfC about the extremely unpleasant behaviour on the talk page and in the edit summaries as referred to by Orderinchaos78 may be a step in the dispute resolution process worth embarking on.

I have done my bit about the article in the sense of trying to provide some sources which to an Australian have credibility and meet WP:RS. I am unfortunately not prepared to deal with unpleasant people on Wikipedia - I have other commitments and I don't have the temperament to stomach rudeness and obscenities or play games. Some other Australian admins who may be able to help out and who are not busy in real life at present are User:Hesperian, User:ScottDavis and User:Capitalistroadster. They are all mature contributers with a strong interest in properly sourced articles and have in my experience always stayed calm. They do normally read WP:AWNB but it might be worth following them up for help on their talk page. User:Cnwb is also an Australian admin who has previously responded to Wickham on his talk page but suggested that he is not capable of helping at the present time. To my mind the article should be able to be reviewed and substantiated by a non-Australian, however, I can understand that sometimes local knowledge can help to evaluate sources.

What is clear to me is that it is against Wikipedia guidelines for either Wickham or Gray to be editing the article as per WP:COI#Close_relationships which you had cited on my talk page. We can't enforce the guideline, but we can insist on WP:V, WP:NOR and WP:RS and also WP:Civil. Note also under WP:COI#Defending interests that the removal of reliably sourced critical material is not permitted. The material supported with a reference to the Powerhouse Museum should not in my view be removed as the Powerhouse is by any stretch a reliable source. Wickham has a problem with the assertion made by the Powerhouse. To put an alternate view he can of course cite the book as evidence of the partnerhip as he has done at the RfC [3] (although it is a bit of a convoluted argument and I don't think it really holds up. Furthermore another editor claiming to be a somewhat interested party has dismissed the booklet with the comment "The booklet could be described as fantastic in the true sense of the word."[4] and I think we too can dismiss it too as an unreliable source given it was written by Gray and his son (as per the rationale applying to Gray's obituary). We can't though dismiss reliable sources who have used the book; Wickham and others need to get them to change their publication, not change Wikipedia. The bottom line as per WP:V is The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. "Verifiable" in this context means that any reader should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source. Editors should provide a reliable source for material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Regards--Golden Wattle ^talk 21:36, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Oberlin Mudd Runs

Having participated in both for the past four semesters, there are two different traditions which are being referenced here. One is the "jock run" which takes place at 4:45 on the last day of reading period which is (mainly) members of athletic teams who run through all the floors of Mudd (except the first floor). The other is the "mudd-midnight-miracle-mile" which is a cross country event which takes place at midnight also during reading period. Members of the mens and womens teams put on costumes and run 12 laps around the second floor, which is roughly a mile. Pictures of this year's cross country run here. So... I don't think there's really much need to list both of these traditions on wikipedia, and my knowledge of them is, "primary research" I suppose, but that's what I know.--Nleamy 18:57, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

AnalogHuman talk page

I tried to ask some questions and my user talk page was filling up with versions that are somehow out of sinc and when I ask a question then the next person tells me to ask a question, so I tried to delete the talk pages that seemed to be causing the problems and it started adding more pages and more , lol. Why don't they just use email here or normal messages ? Well I have all kinds of versions of history in my talk page and don't know how to stop it or get the answers I really want. I did get one response that seemed to be on topic, but it seemed to be about another submission than the one I was discussing. Article Changes - SaaS

I'm not sure how to place my comments in the talk sections (be more than happy too). Essentially BPO is not SaaS as BPO outsources people function along with process and software. SaaS outsources software functionality, assists with process and does not outsource personnel. These edits where obvious manipulation to benefit an outsourced service or software provider.

• I understand that this is a big endeavor with a huge audience, etc. etc. I completely agree that content needs to have a source, but I think there are much more pressing issues on wikipedia than worrying about the citations for a school song. for example, there are many articles that claim to be scientifically accurate and are in fact complete bogus. cleaning up those articles is much more important than searching for these kinds of citations. in fact, if you look at the wikipedia rules you'll discover that purposefully promoting things on wikipedia is forbidden. I can easily argue that by neglecting to work on patently incorrect articles and instead, working on small additions to the article about the high school you graduated from, you are working against wiki rules. i'm not saying that things don't need to be sourced, just that there are other things vastly more urgent to do on wikipedia then surfing through and putting up a bunch of "citation needed" signs.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mwhiz (talk • contribs).

Hi Wavegetarian, I just noticed your deletion of Sue Upton of about a week ago. While I don't really have strong feelings one way or another concerning the deletion of the page, I just want to point out that it was not a "nonsensical redirect," as you stated in your edit summary. I had seen some users trying to link to Melissa Anelli, Sue Upton and John Noe recently before that (I think… it was something where a user was trying to find an article that was about Sue Upton). I got this idea when I noticed that the Phelps page did not have a picture, even when it was a featured article on the main page, and when he broke the world record. Swimming/WaterSports needs a hub of workers to help with swimming related articles. Whoa, calm down. Yes, for your information, I would also have deleted a link to an outrageous far-left polemic (from any publication, I'm not terribly familiar with Mother Jones) the same way I deleted the link to the outrageous far-right polemic. I had two main objections with having that particular article be a reference to that particular statement:

1. Not an especially good illustration of the statement. First of all, half of that article wasn't even about the safe sex night or the Drag Ball, but antiwar protestors, perceived anti-Israel bias, and some perhaps ill-advised (or misinterpreted, or both) remarks about Al-Jazeera. Second of all, it was not a very strong representation of "national attention." A piece from a big mainstream newspaper would have been "national attention," but the publication linked to looked to me more like a fringe underground rag.
2. I am of the opinion that vehement, vitriolic polemics are not especially good encyclopedic references. (And yes, far-left polemics are just as unacceptable as far-right ones.) Just look at the last paragraph of the article: "Whatever the radical leftist issue currently being pushed on campus, Oberlin offers students four years of extremist indoctrination for the bargain price of only $30,000 a year. Oberlin embodies a far-Left paradise of agitation, Marxist activism and sexual licentiousness. It is, in short, a model of the Left’s paradise. It is specifically for this reason that it resembles most traditional Americans’ version of Hell.". The rest of the article is written in a similar tone. I'm sorry, but I just don't think that kind of writing is a suitable reference for an encyclopedia! (Now, if it had been linked to as a reference to some statement like "Oberlin is infamous among some conservatives for its traditionally left-leaning politics and sexual openness", that would have been more appropriate, because it would have actually illustrated the statement it referred to.) I read a bunch of it and am still looking for some guidance... was the link off site inappropiate? I thought since the site had a page on WP that it was viewed to be legit or is that not a hard and fast rule. Or should something like that have been placed in the references to pop culture without and off site link? Or should I have placed it on the article discussion page? Seems like there is a multitude of ways to go...want to try and "Be bold" without adding inappropriate content.

Really trying to get a base pulse of things before I start contibuting more... and you seemed pretty experienced with this.

Thank you for taking the effort to take and upload the photos of the centaph. You'd asked earlier if there was anything else that you might help me research from the Oberlin archieves. That's more than generous, but I think I'll leave it here for now. Of course, if you wanted to put in the effort to make the article a "good article" I'd find the time to help sometime beefore Sept. 1.

BTW, my interest in Shields Green was just in following up another article and I thought there should be something on him in Wikipedia - there aren't too many people like that that history adequately records. I'll follow up on all three men when I have the time; Copeland seems to deserve an article as well. There are a few discrepancies (was the centaph erected in 1860 or 1865?). As a general rule, I don't think "gravestones" are a good way to illustrate articles - but what else is there that shows that Green was ever alive? Perhaps the photo of the inscription is not needed - I'll let others decide - but I'll ask that you give your explicit gift to the public domain on that one (prob. just an oversight - the other 2 are fine).

Wikimedia's IRS form 990

A link to the Audited Financial Statements is on the Wikimedia page. Those are similar to this form 990. So if one is there, the other should be, or neither should be there. And I don't think one is a substitute for the other. A 990 goes into areas not covered by the Financial Statements.

This is also a special case. This article is unlike every other article on a non-profit in at least one way. The one way is that, these are the numbers. What numbers? WP in number form. Some could see it as a decision by WP to disclose or not.

Try to find these numbers? Google: Wikimedia's form 990 or Wikimedia form 990. My site shows up but you can't get it from WP itself.

If the issue is, do I know what I am talking about? I am an active and licensed CPA, I do some 990s myself.

I understand about the .pdf files which could be an argument for loading them up on user:Angela's blog.

You would know better than I, where is this discussion supposed to be taking place? user:Angela's page, my page, the Wikimedia discussion page, here, or somewhere else?

My choice of the words "to disclose or not" was too strong. I think this is an open source project and the theme might be transperancy. At the bottom of many pages we see this: "Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a US-registered 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit charity." I guess I am asking for one link that would bring in the IRS filing most associated with what I just put into quotes above.

The link sat there dead for about 7 months judging from the when it was uploaded, so why would the discussion be about if it belongs there? [7] [8] In practice, it belonged there when the link didn't work because no one deleted it, I'd say. But anyway, thanks for your help.

I just wanted to add and expand request on an article,and looked on help to find the tag, but got totally caught up in stubs, templates, and tags, and found no information to assist me to edit the article to add the tag "expand".I wonder if you could assist me to find the format to do so.
