Speedy deletion nomination of Loosveldt Bridge[edit]

A tag has been placed on Loosveldt Bridge requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. NRHP articles[edit]
Thank you for your articles about properties in Nebraska about places on the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, I've had to delete the Loosveldt Bridge article because it's a verbatim copy of the material at nebraskahistory.org, and is clearly marked as copyrighted. As such, it can't be used directly on Wikipedia, which is a free-content website which requires that incoming material be either your own work (which can use the copyrighted material as a source), copyrighted under a similar free copyright scheme to that used by Wikipedia, or public domain. In general, it's best to assume that everything is copyrighted, since even untagged material is assumed under law to be covered. As a member of the National Register of Historic Places WikiProject, I'd like to take the opportunity to invite you to participate in the project. We have few contributors from Nebraska, and we would be glad to offer assistance and advice. Please check the project out at WP:NRHP. - One further note: please don't copy pictures from the Internet into Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons unless they are clearly marked as public domain - the Loosveldt Bridge picture is similarly copyrighted by the Nebraska State Historical Society and can't be claimed as "own work." It will have to be deleted from Commons. Some of the other images you've uploaded may or may not be freely licensable - images published prior to 1923 are public-domain, and much depends on whether you have direct ownership of the "Bixby Colection." If you do not, the owners will have to provide certification of permission to release the material under Wikipedia's CC-by-SA license before they can be used. Thank you, I'm still new at useing wiki, I do have direct ownership of the "Bixby Collection"
- Excellent. I'm still not sure about the book images; pictures of book covers are generally discouraged anywhere but in an article on the book itself or if they are undeniably public-domain (and even then, recent cover art is copyrighted). Apart from that, let me know if you have any questions. Wikipedia's copyright policy is a bit Byzantine since it is a free license, available for anyone to re-use for any puropse, provided attribution is made. Acroterion (talk) 20:58, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Regarding photos: I'm based in Kearney and do a lot of photography to illustrate articles on Nebraska, particularly outstate, and to get pictures of NRHP sites for Commons. If there are sites you'd like photographed, please let me know at my talk page and I'll keep them in mind for my next trip to Sheridan County. I don't get up there as often as I'd like, but hope to be up that way sometime this spring. Ammodramus (talk) 17:09, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I went through southern Sheridan County a few weeks ago, and got photos of the Antioch potash plants and Lakeside, among other things. I wanted a photo of the District #119 North School in Ellsworth, which is a fairly recent addition to the National Register of Historic Places; but I didn't know what it looked like, and nothing had a "District 119" sign on it. I'm pretty sure I drove right past it but didn't recognize it.
- Is the Loosveldt Bridge on private property? I got the impression somewhere that it was. If so, and if you can get me permission to photograph it, I'd greatly appreciate it.
- Do you know if the Colclesser Bridge is still there? I looked at Google satellite photos, and didn't see a bridge at what I think is the right location.
- I'll be in touch before I return to Sheridan County; unfortunately, that probably won't be before July at the very earliest.
