- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}
Images
[edit]Could you pleasee stop swapping in thematically mismatched images? These are chosen with reference to the respective sections, it's not just a random elephant gallery or whatever. If the section talks about musth, then that's why there is an image depicting musth there. Plus, most of these articles have been curated by people for years, and the pictures chosen by consensus. If you want to change them up, I suggest discussing that on the talk page, or risk having your changes reverted (as has happened multiple times already). --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 07:01, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- Elmidae, can someone stop this user known as Wildlife_of_the_World, he/she seems to be trolling the page or is making uneducated replacements for consensus images reflecting respective taxa. 100.12.240.232 (talk) 23:59, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Also please stop messing with existing image files, like at [1]. This is a descriptive page for one specific image, and you pasting additional images there is useless and disruptive. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 07:02, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
And don't swap out detailed distribution maps for inferior versions, as at Black rhinoceros. Please slow down! --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 07:12, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- Can someone stop the user "Wildlife_of_the_World", he puts what is clearly an outdated distribution map and replaces the wonderful Ivindo bull L. cyclotis image with a equally wonderful, but inaccurate Lake Manyara L. africana image... Most annoying considering the country of Tanzania has 0 record of any forest elephants, and never has their distribution included eastern african savanna. They are endemic to Guineo-Congolian forests and mosaics, not Tanzania. The flapped ears when L. cyclotis has round ears, and the clearly mistitled image is incredibly annoying. 100.12.240.232 (talk) 23:57, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
