Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes (~~~~)
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.
To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put
{{My sandbox}}
on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.Sincerely, Crtew (talk) 00:54, 13 January 2012 (UTC) (Leave me a message)
Stray copy
[edit]Some of your work ended up on our syllabus and so I copied it over to your page so you wouldn't lose any of that data. If it had been another page, another person, you most like would have lost it. Crtew (talk) 20:05, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Keep going!
[edit]Wnwilson1, You found enough reference sources from world press freedom organizations but you'll need additional sources that are from news reports. Otherwise the quality of your Wikipedia article will suffer from lack of verification and you will not be able to show significant coverage. If you noted any variations in spellings or names used for your person, you should incorporate that into your searches. Google News is the place we will start for news. From there we will go into Lexis-Nexis. Do the Google search now and don't forget that it only brings up recent events and so you'll typically have to go into archives (using the menu on the side) to go back to past articles. You know the old saying, "Yesterday's news is today's history." I have a lecture on Blackboard about how to do effective searches for your reference. Please do that now before going to then next step. Crtew (talk) 20:05, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Reflinks tool
[edit]Wnwilson2, It's time to run your reflinks tool and turn those partial, bare links into full reference citation. Open the results in another tab and copy and paste the results from opening to closing of the ref tags and replacing them. Crtew (talk) 02:25, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
The essay message
[edit]Wnwilson, I read your message. I did manage to find that stray work you lost earlier in the semester and I reposted it to your page. I also left you comments on your talk page, but I never saw anything being updated as a result of them, such as your references. There was a video on my Blackboard page that explained how to cite your sources using Wikipedia's tools and template (Somewhere around end of February or March if I remember). As to your work, my review of it is based on the product itself and not excuses. In the end, the readers of Wikipedia don't care whether or not you can't figure out a reflink tool or other things. What people care about is content. And giving up is usually never a good strategy if you want to be successful at something.
I just did some copy editing of your article and deleted the entire Personal section because it wasn't giving any concrete facts. You have to avoid essay-like statements that don't give people factual material. You're writing for an encyclopedia. Good luck, Crtew (talk) 00:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
