Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:CSAIL Alliances
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:CSAIL Alliances, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:42, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Blaze Wolf, I have contested this nomination in the talk area of the Draft. I hope my rationale makes sense--this page is not meant to be promotional in any way but to inform students, visitors, and those looking for information about how to engage with MIT CSAIL about their options through our department. All the information is publicly available. I'm happy to elaborate more on the purpose of this page if it's helpful! Thank you. CsailAlliances (talk) 18:51, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Your username
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "CsailAlliances", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. [edit]You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:19, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Rename from "CsailAlliances" to "WoodsA"
[edit]Rename from "CsailAlliances" to "WoodsA" done. Please address the promotional and conflict of interest aspects of your block in an unblock request. Thanks. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:25, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Unblock Request
[edit]WoodsA (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I apologize for my error, I thought since I was making an academic page under an academic organization's username that it would be acceptable, but I understand that having an account with multiple users creating a page explicitly for their own organization isn't allowed, especially not from a new user. Going forward, I plan to contribute generally to computer science, academia, and MIT-related pages and offer my expertise as a member of the MIT community. I also plan to better understand the parameters of Wikipedia's guidelines by editing other pages and learning how best to post.
I want to disclose that I am an MIT employee but am not paid explicitly to post for any entity of the institution. My error was made because I was helping a colleague, but I plan to be unbiased going forward.
Decline reason:
Computer science falls squarely within your conflict of interest, so you will need to tell us how your future edits will be consistent with the conflict of interest policy. Also note that "paid editing" does not require you to have been specifically paid for edits or asked to edit. 331dot (talk) 10:08, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Unblock Request
[edit]WoodsA (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I'm again requesting to be unblocked after my mistake (and apologize again for misunderstanding the rules). I won't repeat it and will not comment on any subjects in which I have a conflict of interest without disclosing my conflict of interest (although I'll avoid doing so in the first place). I generally want to edit articles pertaining to Boston (where I live), science (which I study), and fiction (which I do as a hobby). I understand that paid editing is anything that has to do with my job and will therefore avoid editing or creating such articles and instead will request edits and use the Articles For Creation process for anything relating to my employment.
Accept reason:
I have unblocked this user as they have demonstrated an understanding of COI policy and committed to using the edit request systems. Please reach out to an admin if you have any questions or concerns. Z1720 (talk) 13:42, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
@Jimfbleak: as the blocking admin, do you have any concerns with unblocking this user, considering the statement above? Z1720 (talk) 01:24, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Z1720: thanks. The blocked editor seems to have taken on board the strict requirements of our COI policy, so I'm happy for you to unblock Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:27, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
