Island of stability

Article(s): Anywhere File:Island-of-Stability.png or File:Island of Stability.svg is currently being used.

Request: Please remove the blue arrow, the "No entry" sign and the text reading "No way! Area of instability". Also, please change the colour scheme from the current greyscale to something more like the colour scheme of [1]. Double sharp (talk) 10:49, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): This graphic might be a useful starting point. Jon C (talk) 12:20, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, but it is kind of outdated. To be honest, much outdated. Not that it's now unuseful, though.
Also, I would love that if anyone agreed to do this in nearest time. The resultant pic is intended to be used in an article which is a current FAC. And it's the only article's problem left as of writing. It will be very useful in other articles, also. A truly good update for the existent island of stability images!

Oh, and it would even more useful (it is important) if you added a neutron scale, which should be much like the proton scale already existent (90...100...110...120), but horizontal rather than vertical. The neutron number for the uppermost outlined square is 176 (its proton number is 118).

It would really matter if anyone agreed asap. Please do write to me if any of the requirements is not clear to you. Thank you very much! --R8R Gtrs (talk) 15:14, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image's request under progression Request taken by DePiep.. The only part I don't get is Jon C's remark. I'll read again. -DePiep (talk) 22:55, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, cannot do this fast and easily as it looked). (It's a png!) No take. -DePiep (talk) 23:47, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is the underlying data available as a spreadsheet / CSV file somewhere? It's much easier to plot than to draw. Jon C (talk) 01:17, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid so not. The document where the data comes from has no calculations or citations included. However, I'm ready to waste an hour of my life to turn that graph into a big column or a table of numerical data if it's really necessary.--R8R Gtrs (talk) 11:21, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There has to be a less tedious way, by slurping the underlying data from NuDat, ENSDF or other similar sources. I agree on the need for an up-to-date, accurate graphics, but I'm pressed for time in the next two weeks or so iRL. If someone can cobble together the half-lives in a spreadsheet (proton #, neutron #, halflife), I'll be happy to write the (python/matplotlib) code to turn it into a (vector) 2D and/or 3D chart in December. Jon C (talk) 04:28, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unluckily, this won't be too useful. Such bases have only existent isotope data (which is in accordance with the purpose of their existent), while most isotopes from this isotopes have not been synthesized, and those half-lives are only predictions (which will be specified in description; this is also easily seen: the outlined data stands for the synthesized isotopes, the other data is for the ones that are only to be created). So tell me if you do need me to do this.--R8R Gtrs (talk) 11:19, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Image's request under progression Request taken by jkwchui. Mea culpa. I didn't notice it was also for theoretical nuclei. Let's do this, with the understanding that I won't be able to touch the intermediate data-file that you sacrificed for until ~2 weeks later.
Given that there is additional info re: synthesized or not, I think that the data file should be in 4 columns (protons, neutrons, life-time category, syn/theoretical). For life-time category, a letter classification (A...F) probably be easier for you to write, and me to read. Jon C (talk) 06:49, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi R8R --- should I be expecting the data-file, and thus a chunk of time on this over Christmas? Jon C (talk) 08:41, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Punnett square (SVG)

 – DyceBot (talk) 07:00, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request: I have created a crude punnett square illustration. The only graphics software I have is MS Paint. Would someone kindly create a better image of this? SVG would be the ideal format, but if that's not convenient then no matter. The "white" mouse should be changed to "non-yellow". I would like the lettering and images aligned correctly, and ideally the bottom-right mouse coloured not yellow, and the other three mice coloured some form of yellow. Feel free to add or remove anything you feel like! —Andrewstalk 06:57, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone illustrate "covariant derivative"?

Stale
 – DyceBot (talk) 07:00, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): Covariant derivative

Request: Recently there was a request on Talk:Covariant_derivative#Add_Images requesting some images for this unillustrated page, and I suggested the following animated image:

I'm not a good graphic artist, but here is a suggestion for a picture. Draw a circle on a flat sheet of paper. Travel around the circle at a constant speed. The derivative of your velocity, your acceleration vector, always points radially inward. Roll this sheet of paper into a cylinder. Now the (Euclidean) derivative of your velocity has a component that sometimes points inward toward the axis of the cylinder depending on whether you're near a solstice or an equinox. This is the (Euclidean) Normal component. The Covariant derivative component is the component parallel to the cylinder's surface, and is the same as that before you rolled the sheet into a cylinder.
