April 14[edit]

Please find the titles to the medley of songs in this late-20s traffic serial.[edit]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkqz3lpUBp0

I like watching how 1928 NYC traffic puts Boston drivers to shame. I didn't know 1920s driving was something like extreme sports back in those days!

However, even though the songs are exciting to listen to, I'd like to listen to them separately. Only one had lyrics, hence I can look that one up easily.

For the others though, I tried Midomi to search by audio; my laptop with its embedded mic listens to itself, and the songs seem too obscure for Midomi.com's database.

Therefore, would you please help me find the titles to the (wordless) songs played on this traffic vid?

I also wonder what present-day comedian Harold Lloyd equates to anyway. --Tergigress (talk) 03:04, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Last one is "The Charleston" or simply "Charleston" or whatever with a long intro. 3:07 is "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". (Those were the easy ones.) Great video. AlexiusHoratius 03:23, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, is the guy in the cab from the 1:30-3:00 or so mark Babe Ruth? It sure looks like him! --Jayron32 03:29, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I assumed it was him..."Babe" and "Ruth" are two of the video's tags, for what it's worth. AlexiusHoratius 03:35, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just noticed he gets dropped off outside Yankee Stadium, so it all fits; and when he gets dropped off is when Take Me Out To The Ball Game is played. --Jayron32 03:53, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that it's a good idea to view a Harold Lloyd comedy (it's Speedy [1928]) as an accurate depiction of driving in 1920s New York. Deor (talk) 03:59, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Nifty video. Basically it's 5 minutes of excerpts from the 1928 film Speedy (film), which is listed as running 86 minutes, and filmed on location in NYC (at least some footage obviously sped up). The guy at 1:00 is Harold Lloyd. And that's definitely Babe Ruth at 1:30. A shot of Yankee Stadium and a band-organ version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" appear around 3:00. Ruth did pretty well for himself as a "ham actor". Definitely "The Charleston" at around 4:45. The clip is obviously an excellent restoration. Here's an original recording of "Crazy Over Horses" from 1926, by Billy Jones and Ernest Hare.[1] Here's a "Charleston" video.[2] The other tunes I don't recognize. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 04:11, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone in the comments has identified "Persian Rug" which starts at 0:15. The video mentions "Springfield Stomp" which may mean something to someone. Sussexonian (talk) 13:28, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The first song (at least after the very short intro) is indeed "Persian Rug". And here's an amateur recording of "Springfield Stomp", which is indeed the same song used in the next sequence in the film.[3] An alert Youtube viewer noticed Lou Gehrig walking by on the other side of the car, at the Stadium, just before the card where Ruth says that if he's ever thinking of suicide, he'll call the cabbie. Hard telling whether all these songs had lyrics, but with the titles identified, that should be relatively easy to find out. The LOC has a large collection of sheet music. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 03:34, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Putri Ayu Silaen[edit]

I'm looking for information on this Seriosa singer in English. According to her Indonesian wikipedia article, she was a contestant on Indonesia Mencari Bakat, which must be some kind of talent show. Specifically, I want to know about concert dates for this year. 203.27.72.5 (talk) 04:14, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • You're right, Indonesia Mencari Bakat (Indonesia is Looking for Talent) is a talent show, similar to Britain's Got Talent. I can't find any information about upcoming concerts, in either language. She apparently performed twice in Singapore last year (alongside a Western singer), so she may do so again. Does she have an official site or anything? I can't find any primary sources from her at all. 203.27.72.5 (talk) 05:03, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
