Cadena Nacional[edit]

There's a thing called "Cadena Nacional" in many countries of South America, which allows the national president to speak to the nation using all the radios and TV channels, which interrupt their usual programming to broadcast it. All of them do so at the same time, so you can change channels and keep watchng the same thing. Usually, this is meant to be used at the 00:00 of national days, or during public emergencies.

In the United States, it used to be the Emergency Broadcast System, until it was superseded by the Emergency Alert System. I can't find any Canadian equivalent. Presumably, because we mostly watch American television anyway, the federal government figures we'll be satisfied to get our warning second hand. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:01, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The U.S. system is used mostly for local emergencies, tornadoes and stuff like that. Presumably, Canada also has local emergencies that people will need information about. Local American radio stations don't generally go on alert for severe weather in Calgary. --Jayron32 05:02, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
