Yes, and I expect the [ɫ] is also an allophone for hard л, but I don't know whether either of those should be used in our phonetic transcriptions. Russian or Ukrainian question[edit]

Transcript: Велосипеды — общие; 1) Обязательно оденьте на ребенка шлем!!! (висит на руле); 2) Кататься можно только в присуствии родителей; 3) Время использования 30-40 мин.

Translation (free style): The bicycles are public; 1) Children must wear helmets (they are hanging on the handlebars); 2) Riding must be supervised by parents; 3) Time for usage: 30-40 min

Probably the quickest diagnostic for distinguishing Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian is the use of the letters и, і, and ы. Russian (for the last 100 years or so) uses и and ы but not і. Ukrainian uses и and і but not ы. Belarusian uses і and ы but not и. —Mahāgaja · talk 18:48, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
