- Template:2022–23 Big 12 Conference men's basketball standings (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Redundant template adding "Conference" after Big 12 when all previous templates do not list like this. Template:2022–23 Big 12 men's basketball standings already existed. Brian (talk) 04:05, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

- Delete this template is a duplicate of the pre-existing Template:2022–23 Big 12 men's basketball standings, although that template may be renamed to include the word "Conference" per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 April 27#Category:Big 12 Conference men's basketball standings templates. This deletion would clear the way for that move. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:04, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

- Template:Character (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
As it is, it's empty and not used by any mainspace article. Looking at the source, it appears to be written in PortableInfobox XML, and may have been intended as an infobox for fictional characters, which would make it a duplicate of {{Infobox character}}. --*Fehufangą ♮ ✉ Talk page 02:00, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Delete. Character articles should use the standard infobox. Gonnym (talk) 08:38, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

- Template:Fake image (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Only one transclusion, redundant to {{image frame}} as demonstrated here. User:GKFXtalk 01:04, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Redirect to Template:Image frame * Pppery * it has begun... 01:19, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Good idea. User:GKFXtalk 12:40, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Comment maybe document your example into {{image frame}} for the instance of {{fake image}} use case? -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 17:20, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was no consensus. There is disagreement as to whether one template makes the other redundant. An editor claimed that each serves a different navigational purpose. The argument wasn't really engaged with in depth, and there is not a sufficient numerical advantage to ignore it. (non-admin closure) ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 02:45, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
Completely overlapped by {{MTV Network programs}} Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 16:30, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

- Keep as navboxes for navigation, they are very different. This template is a subset and sorts by subject. The MTV Network programs is a comprehensive list sorted by decades. "The goal is not to cram as many related articles as possible into one space. Ask yourself, does this help the reader in reading up on related topics? Take any two articles in the template. Would a reader really want to go from A to B? They should be kept small in size as a large template has limited navigation value." WP:NAV-WITHIN StrayBolt (talk) 17:56, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

- Delete The above keep argument is effectively an argument that Template:MTV Network programs (and its brethren for other networks) should be deleted. While that may be true, it does not excuse having redundant navboxes. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:21, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Pppery:The navboxes are not redundant because they are navigated differently. If I gave you a book with definitions of words sorted by the date first used and a book with definitions of words in alphabetic order (and a book of just "musical" words), are they redundant? Are navboxes redundant if we have categories? Also, the Template:MTV Network programs has a very large number of past programs. The over-the-air networks don't include former programs in their templates. Maybe that template has gotten "too big". Maybe a sortable table would be more beneficial. Are there any statistics to evaluate the effectiveness of navbox Templates? How much are they used for navigating? WP is a big place and I don't know what tool might give those numbers. Perhaps the number needs to be normalized by the number of pages the template is on and how many views those pages get and how long it has been in use. Well, just the first number would be a start.
