Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.
If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.

Looks like the Pyralinae will also support a split by tribe. Might as well tag once and be done with it:
- {{Endotrichini-stub}} / Category:Endotrichini stubs
- {{Hypotiini-stub}} / Category:Hypotiini stubs
- {{Pyralini-stub}} / Category:Pyralini stubs

While working on the previously requested Pyralidae split, I discovered that there were about a dozen genera that can each fill or nearly fill a category of their own. Propose templates for each of these genera, and categories for the larger ones:
- Epipaschiinae
- {{Jocara-stub}} / Category:Jocara stubs (77 P)
- Pyralinae
- {{Endotricha-stub}} / Category:Endotricha stubs (103 P)
- {{Hypotia-stub}} (54 P)
- {{Hypsopygia-stub}} / Category:Hypsopygia stubs (108 P)
- Phycitinae
- Anerastiini
- {{Emmalocera-stub}} / Category:Emmalocera stubs (72 P)
- Phycitini
- {{Acrobasis-stub}} / Category:Acrobasis stubs (139 P)
- {{Ancylosis-stub}} / Category:Ancylosis stubs (83 P)
- {{Dioryctria-stub}} / Category:Dioryctria stubs (80 P)
- {{Epicrocis-stub}} (49 P)
- {{Euzophera-stub}} (53 P)
- {{Homoeosoma-stub}} / Category:Homoeosoma stubs (63 P)
- Anerastiini
These 11 genera alone account for nearly 900 articles! Dawynn (talk) 12:39, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Over in Category:Software stubs, I've came across several articles about mobile software, especially third-party Android software, that doesn't fit into any existing stub category beside the one it's already in, such as Agit (software). I'm not sure if there are enough articles for a new stub category, but I think that it's a general enough topic so that editors exist who could improve these articles.--Yutsi Talk/ Contributions 16:08, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
(fixed category reference above)--Qetuth (talk) 02:55, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- Category:Software stubs is oversized (>900 articles) so I support a template - and a category if 60 such articles can be found. I presume a second parent category would be Category:Telecommunications stubs. What about a name though? {{telecomm-software-stub}} (as intersection of {{software-stub}} and {{telecomm-stub}})? SeveroTC 21:11, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support also. Category:Mobile technology stubs / {{mobile-stub}} are an obvious parent I think, so {{mobile-software-stub}} would be my name suggestion. --Qetuth (talk) 23:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Seems a better choice, and fits the permcat Category:Mobile software. CatScan puts 351 tagged articles in three levels of that permcat so Category:Mobile software stubs would make a viable stub cat. SeveroTC 14:31, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I have received word that there is a push to create articles for each of the villages in Iran. In order to avoid later stub sorting, please approve the creation of county-level templates, and potential category names for when the templates reach maturity.

Main article: Heliozelidae. Create as an exploratory template. Also, to help move this family around. Current higher-level classification is uncertain. Having a template and potential category will ease moving of articles once classification determined. Build template first, with category to follow after 60 articles tagged. We have previously requested and approved templates for all of the Wisconsin counties, although these have not all been built. This main parent category continues to be oversized, but dividing into the various counties is creating templates with an average of 20 - 30 articles each. I found this website which indicates the governor-established regional planning commissions for the state of Wisconsin. Can we base regional categorization on the map provided here? If we include the county with the capital, as well as the 5 counties not covered by an RPC, we have what could be termed the South Central region. Here's how this would break down:

With 9 regions, the geography categories would break down to about 180 articles each. Dawynn (talk) 02:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

- After further thought, it's really OR to declare a South Central region ourselves, and a quick search shows several organisations use "South Central Wisconsin" - none appear to match the 6 counties listed. It might be better to leave those 5 spare counties upmerged to the main category until they can have their own category? (So support all except SCW, undecided about it) --Qetuth (talk) 01:43, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- I oppose these intermediate subdivisions of the state. There is no standard county regional groupings in Wisconsin for the counties Wisconsin - making this method POV or possibly even OR. For example, east central Wisconsin almost always includes Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. Sheboygan county is often added to the southeastern Wisconsin grouping too. The standard method for organizing lists of counties in Wisconsin (on Wikipedia) is to list all 72 counties right under the state category and sort by county name. 72 is not too high of a number to look through so why promote someone's non-standard subdivision method? WikiProject Wisconsin has not be alerted to any subdivisions of the Wisconsin-geo-stub template so I have notified them. Royalbroil 05:10, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right that 72 is not a large number to look through. The problem is the over 1600 articles in the parent category -- more than double the size we strive for. And I will also agree that I have not seen a consistent division of the state, even amongst the various governmental bodies. I was just trying to find some kind of division to make this category more manageable. I will leave the discussion open for now for others to weigh in. Dawynn (talk) 13:09, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with Royalbroil-there is no intermediate subdivisions in Wisconsin. This should be taken to the WikiProject Wisconsin discussion page. Thank you-RFD (talk) 01:46, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

The New Zealand people category is greatly oversized. This may just be undersorting, but if its a matter of lack of approved tags, I suggest the following exploratory tags, copied from similar tags for US and UK:

- I tried sorting it, but virtually all of them appear to be bot generated articles drawing from an encyclopedia of biographies, awaiting proper expansion, and in most cases not containing enough information to accurately sort without going into the linked reference to see why it was added to the categories it was. Tags like activist will definitely help in the meantime
- In any case Support most as with 2500 or so articles they'll be needed sooner or later. Except check these points:
- {{NewZealand-gov-bio-stub}}, {{NewZealand-music-bio-stub}} : stub tags already exist which partly overlap these in {{NewZealand-politician-stub}} and the tags in Category:New Zealand musician stubs.
- {{NewZealand-royal-stub}} and {{NewZealand-noble-stub}} : As far as I could tell there aren't really nobles, and only a very small number of Royals, which all would currently fall under {{maori-stub}}. Perhaps a new {{maori-bio-stub}} would be more appropriate?

Split of Category:Flemish painter stubs
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was insufficient numbers; do not create.
For more detail, please see Category talk:Flemish painter stubs. This category has become overly inclusive because of the lack of other Flemish artist categories. Category:Flemish painter stubs includes eight Flemish engravers and one illustrator, none of whom appeared to be painters. It also includes several multidisciplinary artists who were sculptors, illustrators, engravers, architects, and draughtsmen in addition to being painters. At the same time, the criteria of "mainly active between 1581 and 1830" excludes earlier Flemish painters.
I propose the following new template categories:
- {{Flemish-engraver-stub}} / Category:Flemish engraver stubs for the Flemish engravers.
- {{Flemish-artist-stub}} / Category:Flemish artist stubs, which would include the multidisciplinary artists or artists who are neither painters nor engravers.
I also propose adding three century birth stubs within Category:Flemish painter stubs, like those in Category:French painter stubs and Category:Italian painter stubs:
- {{Flemish-painter-16thC-stub}} / Category:Flemish painter, 16th century birth stubs
- {{Flemish-painter-17thC-stub}} / Category:Flemish painter, 17th century birth stubs
- {{Flemish-painter-18thC-stub}} / Category:Flemish painter, 18th century birth stubs
As of this moment, there are 146 pages are in this category. Peaceray (talk) 23:12, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- 146 is probably too small to justify splitting for a stub category - we generally don't have categories for less than 60 stubs. However, I suggest the main category name should be moved to Category:Flemish artist stubs containing both {{Flemish-artist-stub}} and {{Flemish-painter-stub}}: see Category:Portuguese artist stubs for a similar category. For most European countries, "painter stubs" is a subcat of "artist stubs" which is created once there are at least 60 of both. -- Qetuth (talk) 04:51, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Fixed typo, and question: is 'artist' a suitable parent for 'engraver'? The main cats seem to go to printing -- Qetuth (talk) 04:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- There is a Category:Flemish engravers, which is a subcategory of Category:Flemish printmakers (among others), which itself is a subcategory of both Category:Printmakers and Category:Flemish artists. To mirror these categories, would it be appropriate to have the following?
- {{Flemish-artist-stub}} / Category:Flemish artist stubs
- {{Flemish-engraver-stub}} for the Flemish engravers, which then be under both the Category:Flemish artist stubs and the Category:Printmaking stubs
- Category:Flemish painter stubs would then be a subcategory to Category:Flemish artist stubs; plus remove or alter the "mainly active between 1581 and 1830" verbiage.

- This should average to about 57 articles per division. But averages never work out exactly. Given current article counts, even if one new category can be built, Uttar Pradesh will be back under 800. Dawynn (talk) 13:52, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Speedy request. To pick up {{Washington-bio-stub}}. This template has 61 tagged articles, but only because I quit in the 'B's. Dozens, if not hundreds, more could probably be tagged. Category will also be a parent for Category:Washington (state) politician stubs. I'll also ask for approval for a few breakdown templates and potential categories:
- {{Washington-sport-bio-stub}} / Category:Washington (state) sportspeople stubs
- {{Washington-musician-stub}} / Category:Washington (state) musician stubs
- {{Washington-reli-bio-stub}}
- {{Washington-artist-stub}}
- {{Washington-writer-stub}}
Dawynn (talk) 15:02, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support speedy-cat, new templates, and subcats when >60 without draining main cat <60. I assume the new templates would in the meantime double upmerge to eg {{Washington-bio-stub}}/{{US-reli-bio-stub}}? All looks good. --Qetuth (talk) 21:59, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Propose {{telephone-number-stub}} and Category:Telephone number stubs as child of oversized Category:Telecommunications stubs to hold over 150 'Telephone numbers in foo' national articles. --Qetuth (talk) 06:52, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
- {{telephone-number-stub}} or {{telephonenumber-stub}} (is it really related to {{number-stub}}/{{num-stub}})? Support, Category:Area code stubs seems a natural child cat. SeveroTC 15:40, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks again - I'm going to get the hang of noticing those stems eventually. We don't have a 'phone' or 'telephone' stem either (but oddly enough do have 'mobile'). So {{telephonenumber-stub}} is probably better. --Qetuth (talk) 23:19, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Propose reducing oversized category Category:Festival stubs with:
- {{Theatre-festival-stub}} and Category:Theatre festival stubs (~101)
- {{Arts-festival-stub}} and Category:Arts festival stubs (~90)
- {{Religious-festival-stub}} and Category:Religious festival stubs if reached (~60)

Edited to replace literary- with arts- after I realised Category:Literary festivals is a subcat of Category:Arts festivals --Qetuth (talk) 13:21, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- No opposition to the split, but template names as:
- {{Theat-festival-stub}} (as per {{Theat-stub}})
- {{Art-festival-stub}} (as per {{Art-stub}})
- {{Reli-festival-stub}} (as per {{Reli-stub}})
- SeveroTC 11:19, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Actually, the art- stem is for visual art etc. Category:Arts festivals and Category:Art festivals are different categories. 'Art' covering visual art and photography, sculpture, 'Arts' also covering books and poetry and many misc festivals - that is perhaps unnecesarily confusing.
- How about reverting to my original (edited out) suggestion of {{lit-festival-stub}}, for literary and poetry festivals and book faires? It will probably not reach 60 transclusions on it's own, which is why I looked at the parent permcat. --Qetuth (talk) 12:27, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's better. The trouble with -arts- is we don't have such a parent type (-art- as you mention being different). The most similar type to it is {{culture-stub}}, but Category:Culture stubs is a subtype of Category:Festival stubs anyway. SeveroTC 13:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
To clarify, final proposal is:
- {{Theat-festival-stub}} and Category:Theatre festival stubs
- {{Reli-festival-stub}} and Category:Religious festival stubs
- {{lit-festival-stub}} upmerged
- {{Food-festival-stub}} upmerged

Category:Minnesota geography stubs is currently at 724 articles, with not much for established regional areas in Minnesota. I propose a category based on the Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Bloomington MSA as defined in this article. Would be a parent-only category for:
- {{AnokaCountyMN-geo-stub}} (6 P)
- {{CarverCountyMN-geo-stub}} (3 P)
- {{ChisagoCountyMN-geo-stub}} (1 P)
- {{DakotaCountyMN-geo-stub}} (8 P)
- {{HennepinCountyMN-geo-stub}} (39 P)
- {{IsantiCountyMN-geo-stub}} (23 P)
- {{RamseyCountyMN-geo-stub}} (4 P)
- {{ScottCountyMN-geo-stub}} (6 P)
- {{SherburneCountyMN-geo-stub}}
- {{WashingtonCountyMN-geo-stub}} (5 P)
- {{WrightCountyMN-geo-stub}} (1 P)
I expect these are probably undersorted as {{Minnesota-geo-stub}} contains over 300 articles. Dawynn (talk) 16:13, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

- Category:Australian rules biography, 1880s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1880s-stub}} (98 transclusions)
- rename of Category:Australian rules biography, pre-1940 birth stubs to Category:Australian rules biography, pre-1880 birth stubs

- We split many other countries by state so I don't see why not. SeveroTC 18:54, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- Reject. I had a look through the Category:Building and structure stubs tree, and it seems only parts of USA and Canada split structures by state, and then only because it was still oversized after splitting by building type, which is where all other oversides countries have started. Category:Indian building and structure stubs is still pretty small and looks like theres more sorting by building that can be done (eg, churches, jails) before we resort to these. --Qetuth (talk) 13:30, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

While not oversized, at over 300 articles, its probably worth investigating a split down to the current national boundaries. Propose templates and categories (if article counts sufficient):
- Category:North Korean company stubs / {{NorthKorea-company-stub}}.
- Category:South Korean company stubs / {{SouthKorea-company-stub}}.

A stub as {{internet-meme-stub }} or similar.
I also propose protection for articles written under this as articles about Internet memes on Wikipedia tend to be vandalized or nominated for speedy deletions.
- A search for Internet memes with under 2500 bytes gave 44 Internet memes and 15 Viral videos, so plausible. Either Category:Internet stubs or Category:World Wide Web stubs could be parent. But it could be problematic - if a stub isn't clearly a meme, it doesn't revert to being an internet stub (it could be a song, or a picture, or a person, etc). --Qetuth (talk) 13:47, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

- 1. Creation of Category:Anime OVA stubs for {{anime-OVA-stub}} as a subcategory of Category:Anime and manga stubs. Currently, {{anime-OVA-stub}} and {{anime-film-stub}} both feed Category:Anime film stubs, which has now matured to have >90 instances of each template, but I think the OVAs would be better placed under the main category. (Also neither of the templates are currently listed in the main stub list, but I didn't relise that until I was done populating them)
- 2. Creation of {{anime-org-stub}}, and Category:Anime and manga organisation stubs if >60 articles, to contain the various companies, studios, distributors, societies, awards, or websites. I suggest -org- rather than -company- because the latter three aren't neccesarily companies.
- 3. Creation of {{anime-convention-stub}} for the ~40 convention stubs, upmerged to the above Category:Anime and manga organisation stubs if it's created, or otherwise the main Category:Anime and manga stubs
- 4. Creation of upmerged {{anime-music-stub}} for anime soundtracks, list of song in foo, and singing groups. I think about 30 at the moment but potential to grow.
- 5. Any ideas on the best way to subcategorise the manga stubs? There are over 500 manga stubs in Category:Anime and manga stubs, most purely for manga, others for manga/anime, or manga/game, or manga/novel, or so on, and looking at the Category:Manga subcats the best I can think of to draw some out of that pile is the 'by demographic' subcat tree, which seems in contrast to the anime having been drawn out into film/OVA/series. --Qetuth (talk) 06:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Suppport 1-4. Not sure about 5 either, looks a bit tricky.
