Expanding Cannabis and Bahai (marijuana)?

It's currently redirected to a section of Cannabis and religion, but if we have more content to add we can make it a standalone like Cannabis and Latter-day Saints. My understanding is the Bahai Faith is opposed to the use of cannabis, so any coverage of how that came to be, how that effects their current stances as many states/countries modify their laws, etc. would be great. Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 20:59, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

That I'm aware of the main principle is drugs in general (aka intoxicants) are forbidden unless under a doctor's supervision as a treatment. This also applies to alcohol. There is a collection of primary sources at [1] As I understand it, that society in general is changing it's stances don't matter in terms of Baha'i teachings but that would require a ruling by the Universal House of Justice. On the other hand there is the matter of how Baha'i teachings are applied in an individual life vs presented in some social context - individuals are presumed to not be perfect and laws are generally mean to be about a progressive evolution of one's life - see Bahá'í views on sin, Bahá'í laws. As far as a stand along article I'm simply not aware of secondary sources. At best I'd guess it could be a section in the Baha'i laws article?? Smkolins (talk) 02:11, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
I refined the existing entry… more would really requiring secondary sources. Smkolins (talk) 02:21, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

new to editing wikipedia

I haven't done a lot of editing other than small edits and such i.e. typos. What is a good next step? --Binaryhazard (talk) 04:11, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

You can always choose a random article within the WikiProject and find ways to improve it. A good way to make improvements would be to find references to support and expand articles. Try looking through the Bahá'í-related stubs or start-class articles and pick one you're interested in. See here for potential sources. dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 20:35, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Multiple sidebars?

I'm working on filling out some stubs connected to the Baha'i Faith, but I'm encountering a confusing issue. On pages that are relevant to multiple overarching topics, can there be multiple sidebars/templates included? For instance, if I'm working on filling out a page on one of the letters of the living, trying to be NPOV and accurate, can it have a template/sidebar for both Baha'i Faith and Babism? Or should only one be used, and if so, how to determine priority? - penultimate_supper (talk) 16:55, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

@Penultimate supper: Does WP:SIDEBAR help? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:22, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Some articles also have a bottom bar type of side bar… Smkolins (talk) 20:35, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Super helpful input, thanks. After reading that, I think what I am going to do is create a bottom bar template for Babism, since there is already one for the Baha'i Faith. That way any article that ought to have both can have both bottom bars, which works better than two sidebars. Seem like a good idea? penultimate_supper (talk) 20:45, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Automatic archiving?

Would anyone object to setting up this talk page for automatic archival? dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 20:09, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Makes sense to me - though after the initial catch up I'd suggest a slow and easy process? Smkolins (talk) 21:18, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Sounds great to me! It's less distractting that way, I don't need to be wasting time I could be spending getting work done editing reading old discussions that are no longer relevant. 😝 penultimate_supper (talk) 22:08, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Cool, I've set it up. Archiving should start within the next 24h. I've set it so that it'll only archive threads when they're over two months old, and leave at least five articles on the main talk page at all times. dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 16:44, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Unity in diversity

Can I get some feedback on Unity in diversity? Sometime back in April 2017 the page was significantly altered to state that "Unity in diversity" was merely a political motto, but I feel like there's a good case for it being more of an overarching philosophical concept—even if the phrase itself is sometimes used as a slogan. The Lalonde ref on that page mentions that the concept was current in Taoist societies as well as in Ancient Greece, but all I've been able to find so far was its treatment by Ibn al-Arabi and his followers. Anyone else have any leads on good sources to expand this article? dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 14:58, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:26, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

The Bahá'í Faith Barnstar

I've created the Bahá'í Faith Barnstar. Per Barnstar criteria: Awarded to users who've shown great editing skills in improving articles related to the Bahá'í Faith. JudeccaXIII (talk) 17:32, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Missing/broken references

I'm trying to make a dent in Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors, and a few articles related to the Baha'i faith have issues that I can't fix. Basically, some refs linked via {{sfn}} and {{harvnb}} and similar have missing full citations or have some other problems. You can check these instructions to have error messages enabled (Svick's script is the simplest to use, but Trappist's script is a bit more refined if you're interested in doing deeper cleanup).

The cause is often copy-pasting a short reference from another article without copy-pasting the full reference. If you can find where things were copy-pasted from, you can usually find what the full reference is.

Thanks for any help you can give! Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:32, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. Occasional cross editing where people delete something else also happens. What a mess. But thanks for helping and pointing things out. Smkolins (talk) 13:37, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

There's very likely more, but those were pretty easy to spot as being of interest to this project. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:39, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Also reminds me that many Baha'i News references are smei-broken - they've been posted more than once in lots of places but a few later dropped them while later ones consciously went about cleaning up scans. I went around for a while at least deleting the dead urls for a while and in a few cases fix urls when new ones came along. But there is much yet to be done. But I don't know a simple way to gather the list of such in one place. Smkolins (talk) 14:00, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

RfC on ecclesiastical titles

There is a proposal for a new subsection on ecclesiastical titles being conducted at MOS:BIO. Interested editors are encouraged to participate. It is a bit Christian-centric as currently written, so the opinions of those with knowledge of other religions is especially welcome. --Slugger O'Toole (talk) 02:19, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Baháʼí Faith veiw on Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith is considered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a prophet. Bahá’ís do not regard him as such. He is not considered by Bahá’ís to be a prophet, minor or otherwise. He is considered to be a "religious teacher sensitive to the spiritual currents flowing in the early 19th century directly from the appearance of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh and the Revelation of their Messages of hope and Divine Guidance." (Lights of Guidance, p. 511)

Joseph Smith could be mentioned on the Manifestation of God page or given a similar page title "Baháʼí Faith veiw on Joseph Smith." Doremon764 (talk) 06:07, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Luṭfu'lláh Hakím#Requested move 26 March 2021 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 08:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
