What's the proper way to cite a translation from another language Wikipedia? I've done a moderate amount of translation from French, most notably at Pierre Cauchon, and I'm unsure how to present it. Durova 06:15, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think a link to the other-language article would suffice for GFDL purposes (similarly to merging articles). As far as actual in-text citation goes, I don't think referencing another Wikipedia article, in any language, is a particularly good idea; we'd probably want to copy over the sources listed in the translated article instead. —Kirill Lokshin 12:02, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- Articles already have links to other language editions on the left hand side of the page. On that article I added a mention in italics at the bottom of the page since the whole thing was translated. What would you do if only part of the article is translated? Insert a footnote? - Actually, I meant putting a link in the edit summary (e.g.

translation request (french to english)[edit]
I thought I could write it here instead of bothering each of the listed translators - hope you don't mind. The article Scanderbeg needs some work (ref, npov check, etc) and I have found a french book (and in public domain) about him that is supposed to be good. So if anyone can help, perhaps we could finish with the tags requesting citation and then proceed with improving the article. I must also note that Paganel's book about Scanderbeg could be used in many related articles (about battles Scanderbeg fought, etc). Thanks! talk to +MATIA 11:43, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
