Wikipedia:WikiProject Chinese-language entertainmentWikipedia:WikiProject China/Chinese-language entertainment – This wikiproject is inactive, I suggest merging it to WPCHINA as a taskforce, similar to how other inactive wikiprojects are converted into taskforces of greater active projects for better coverage (talk) 17:21, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support I am the nominator -- (talk) 17:33, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose A significant portion of Chinese-language entertainment is more closely related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other Chinese-speaking places (which have their own WikiProjects). If a merger is needed, WP:WikiProject Entertainment might be a better target. wctaiwan (talk) 17:38, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
    • WPCHINA also covers the Chinese diaspora, so already covers all Chinese-speaking places in the world. The only problem with WPCHINA is it is missing a PRC task force and a diaspora task force, lumping all those topics into the main project. WPENTERTAINMENT is inactive, apparently for longer than this wikiproject has existed. If no one exists at the merger target, you'll still have no people watching these discussions/pages. -- (talk) 02:19, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Support WP:CHINA is the obvious parent project for this project. Rincewind42 (talk) 05:45, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Any additional comments:

I will note that WPCHINA's Modern Chinese music workgroup was converted into this WikiProject, while it remains signed onto WPCHINA's banner. It's time to return it to WPCHINA. -- (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Comment: While we are at it, how many of Category:China-related WikiProjects are actually active? Timmyshin (talk) 04:06, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Not all of those can be simply merged though, (HK,Macau,Tibet will have the same problem as trying to merge WPTAIWAN (something that isn't listed in the category but has low activity; and I wouldn't want to try to merge them to WPCHINA anyways, if we need to merge away HK/Macau/Tibet/Taiwan, they should go to WPEASTASIA; there's already an issue about Macau/HK editors and POV edits to PRC aritlces... to say nothing about the Taiwan/PRC editing issues) It would be easier if PRC were to have it's own taskforce, so other editors don't see some PRC behemoth dominating articles. The same problem exists for diaspora articles, having a diaspora taskforce would show to say WPcountryY that WPCHINA isn't the PRC taking over country Y's articles. -- (talk) 06:04, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Comment: I've been able to find Chinese-language films from Singapore that haven't been co-produced in either the PRC or ROC. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:43, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet for Wikiproject China/Chinese language entertainment at Wikimania 2014[edit]

Project Leaflet WikiProject Medicine back and front v1.png

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Delink from WP China[edit]

The Chinese languages aren't solely a matter of China, and Chinese-language entertainment, television, films, are mostly not part of China, but Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, and so on. Other re-upmerge this WP to WP Entertainment, or make it a standalone WP. (talk) 20:10, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
