Naayak (Telugu: నాయక్) is an upcoming Tollywood film starring Ram Charan Teja, Kajal Aggarwal and Amala Paul in the lead roles and is directed by V.V. Vinayak. The film is produced by D .V. V Danayya under their banner Universal Media.[4] The film marks the second time Ram Charan and Kajal are paired together after Magadheera. The soundtrack was composed by S. Thaman.[5] The film began shooting in February 2012 and is to be completed by mid-December.[6] The film is slated to release during the Sankranthi weekend in early 2013 along with a dubbed Tamil version.[6]

Cast

Production

Casting

The film revolves around a boy who fights hard to fulfill his father’s ambition.[7] Ram Charan Teja would play a Dual Role in the film for the first time in his Career[8] and the film was said to have an Emotionally Charged Interval block.[9] He would Share the screen with Kajal Aggarwal and Amala Paul in this Film and the two ladies were reported to have quite an entertaining characterization.[10] Ram Charan and Kajal were last seen as a pair in the 2009 Blockbuster film Magadheera directed by S. S. Rajamouli.[11] S. Thaman provided the music while Akula Shiva has penned the script and Kona Venkat is the dialogue writer. Earlier reports suggested that Shruti Haasan would do an item song in the film, but were later denied by the actress herself.[12] Charmee would play an item song in the film[13] which was confirmed by Herself in twitter.[14]

Filming

The movie was Launched on November 9, 2011 early morning at Annapurna Studios. The event was graced by Mega Star Chiranjeevi, Mrs Surekha Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Allu Aravind, Dr Brahmanandam, Rajamouli, Rama Rajamouli, K Raghavendra Rao, Srinu Vaitla, Sampath Nandi, NV Prasad, Bellamkonda Suresh, Shyam Prasad Reddy, B Gopal, S Gopal Reddy, MS Narayana, Raja Ravindra, etc. Chiranjeevi directed the muhurtham shot on Ram Charan, while Mrs Surekha Chiranjeevi sounded the clap. Veteran Director K Raghavendra Rao switched on the camera.[7] In Early August the music Director of the film announced the title of the film as Naayak in his twitter. In End of August, The film was extensively shot in Iceland and then in Slovenia. The remixed version of the song "Subhalekha Raasukunna" from Kondaveeti Donga was shot in iceland. the song was originally supposed to be shot on Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal but it was filmed on Charan and Amala Paul as Kajal's dates were not available.[15][16] Sorces reported that Amala Paul reportedly is going to do an ultra-glam act in the song.[17] Buzz is that the schedule will go on till October 10 but it was completed Earlier. On October 7, Scenes featuring Ram Charan and Amala Paul were shot at Cineplanet in Kompally and Starting from Oct 12, Some action episodes involving Charan, Dev Gill and others were shot in the next schedule.[18][19] It was reported that the fight sequences featuring Ram Charan are reportedly extremely good and sources say that these action sequences are going to be a treat for his fans.[20] Meanwhile, It was reported earlier that Naayak would release on January 14 as Ram Charan Teja's treat for the Sankranthi. Later it was rumoured that the movie was withdrawn from the Pongal race and DVV Danayya's financial hardships were said to be the reason behind the delay in the release of the film. Later the release date was Confirmed on January 9, 2013 by Danayya Himself.[21] On October 23, It was reported that the has completed its Kolkata schedule and the unit is returning to Hyderabad. The movie was shot extensively in key locations of Kolkata like Mallik Ghat flower market, Chhote Lal ghat etc. and the movie’s next schedule will begin in Hyderabad and a Huge set was erected at Saradhi studios in Hyderabad[22] for a song[23] In November, the movie unit had its Shooting in nights at Hyderabad inspite of the extreme chill in the city.[24] In the End of November, it was reported that the post production stages, Dubbing activities have already commenced and going on a brisk space and Except for two songs and climax, the talkie part is almost complete.[25] It was also reported that The producers are planning to release the movie’s audio album in December.[26] In November End, it was reported that The film’s last and final schedule will begin on December 3 and a song will be shot along with the climax sequence.[27] On December 7, the The climax sequences were shot today and it was reported that shooting is expected be fully complete in a few weeks time and it was also reported that Charan, Kajal and Amala Paul will be a part of this climax sequence along with the other principal actors.[28] Later it was Reported that after the completion of climax, the unit would shift to RFC for left over song shoot where a magnificent set is going to erect for this song shoot in RFC which will continue till December 20, 2012 and with this the entire shooting of the film will be wrapped up.[29][30] The song "Nellorae" was canned on Charan and Charmme later and it was declared that with this, the entire shooting of Naayak would come to an end.[14]

Post Production

The Post Production activities started on round the clock after the completion of shoot and it was reported that Charan himself is spending long hours in dubbing suites to complete his work on time and with just under two weeks left, producer D.V.V. Danayya and director V.V.Vinayak are personally taking care of all the activities so that the film does not miss out on its Sankranthi release.[31] On December 29, 2012 Charan completed his part of Dubbing.[32]

S. Thaman Provided the music for this film. This marks the first Collaboration of Thaman with Ram Charan Teja and also with V.V. Vinayak. The Super hit Ilaiyaraaja's Melody "Shubhalekha Rasukunna" from Chiranjeevi's Kondaveeti Donga was Re-mixed in this film. The audio rights were bagged by Aditya Music for a Record Price.[33]

Launch

The audio release of this film was launched on December 17, 2012 at Ramanaidu Cine Village at Nanakramguda.[34] Power Star Pawan Kalyan attended the function as chief guest and released the audio CD and handed over the first piece to Surekha, wife of Chiranjeevi. Stylish Star Allu Arjun and Rajamouli released the trailers on the occasion.[35]

Reception

The audio got Positive Response and all songs were instant Chartbusters[38]. 123telugu gave a review stating "The audio album of ‘Naayak’ makes one thing abundantly clear – Ram Charan will be in full flow with his dances. The songs are peppy, have entertainment value and provide ample scope for interesting choreography."[39] telugumuzicreviews stated "A satisfying album for Ram Charan’s fans ".[40] Tollywoodandhra.com gave a review stating "An out and out mass album from Thaman which will be a perfect fit for a mass entertainer like Nayak. Thaman’s instrumention is excellent but is a bit let down in lyrics department."[41] andhraheadlines.com gave a review stating "Except for one song other five songs attracts both class and mass people. Tunes are crucial for the film's success."[42] APHerald.com gave a moderate review stating "Thaman has entertained with couple of good songs but overall not very impressive at the end of the day."[43] Milliblog.in stated the album to be a "Solid masala soundtrack from Thaman."[44] CineCorn.com gave a review stating "Like any or most of Thaman albums Naayak is again full of catchy parts, bits and phrases that would be liked and lapped up by the people. Few songs are going to be chart-busters and that just about does it."[45]

Release

The movie is slated for a world wide release on January 9, 2013 and is reported that it will be the first big production to release in 2013 to kick off the lucrative Sankranthi season.[46] Later, Girijan Student associations have raised an objection over the title, stating that the term ‘Naayak’ is reserved for use exclusively by people belonging to the Lambadi sect and demanded a change in the movie’s title.[47] In January 2013, it was reported thai In Nizam area, Geetha Arts and Dil Raju have confirmed 110 screens so far and Vizag area is going to have a 103-screens release.[48]Naayak is going to release in over 100 screens in USA and Canada[49]Naayak was submitted to Central Board of Film Certification on 4 January, 2013 and it received A certificate.[50]

Pre-Release Revenues

Noted producer Dil Raju picked up the Screening rights in Nizam for a whopping price in excess of Rs 11 Crores, the highest ever for that region.[51] Universal Media, which produced two of the big back-to-back- blockbusters of 2012, Julayi and Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu, is releasing the film in USA.[52] Telugu Global Movies hold the Gulf Screening Rights while Errabus Movies hold the UK & Europe Screening rights for a Fancy Price.[53][54] The Tamilnadu Rights were sold for 60 Lakhs which is record price for any Telugu movie in that state and Karnataka Rights were sold for a price of about Rs. 4.14 Crores by Gayatri Films.[55] The film’s Guntur area rights are sold for Rs. 3.75 crores which is all time highest price for any movie in this region, which was earlier held by Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu for Rs.3.50 crores.[56] The Satellite rights were bought by Gemini TV for a fancy prize of 7.5 - 8 Crores.[57][58] The South Africa Rights were bought by SATS[59] and theatrical rights for the region of Australia and New Zealand are bought by 24 Crafts Pty Ltd for 23 lakhs.[60] The Hindi Satellite rights were sold for 3.5 Cr which is the highest ever for a Telugu film.[61]
