Area codes 812 and 930
North American area code 812 is the largest in area in Indiana, covering the southern third of the state. The 812 area includes the northern suburbs of Louisville and the northwestern suburbs of Cincinnati, as well as Evansville (812's largest city) and most of its suburbs. Other cities in the 812 area code are Bedford, Bloomington, Columbus, Greensburg, Jasper, Seymour, Terre Haute, and Vincennes.
The 812 code was introduced in 1947 as one of the original area codes. Due to southern Indiana's relatively low population density, it is one of the declining number of original area codes to have never been split or overlaid. However, 812 is expected to exhaust by 2015; an overlay (or split) would be needed.[1] An overlay of 812 has been recommended.
