The new equipment provided an opportunity to observe the total solar eclipse during the same year.

Overview[edit]

According to the regulations of the Astronomical Center, astronomical observations for amateurs can be carried out with a preliminary request.

The staff of the Astronomical Center carries out scientific investigations in the area of the variable stars, with the results published in the main astronomical journals. Especially useful and successful is the joint work (since 1987) with astronomers of the Pedagogical University and Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

The staff of the Astronomical Center carry out regular photometrical observations at Mount Suhora Observatory and spectral observations at NAO-Rozhen.

The Astronomical Center of Shumen university was the third institution for education and scientific investigation in the area of astronomy to be built in Bulgaria (after Institute of Astronomy of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Department of astronomy of the Sofia University).

The staff of the Astronomical Center looks forward the building of astronomical dome for the 41 cm telescope on Shumen plateau.
