Noble families had nobility status in certain feudal entity which is different from modern day nationality. Therefore Noble families by nationality category does not make much sense. --Antidiskriminator (talk) 15:29, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nationality is the legal relationship between a person and a nation state which is a 19th-century European phenomenon. Noble families are phenomenon which is basically connected with pre-19th century feudal entities. It is wrong to group noble families using nationalty criteria. Please revert your edits that nationalize medieval noble families and seek wider community consensus before you proceed.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 16:44, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on principle, but 1) Category:Noble families needs some for of grouping cleanup. If you think that by country or such would be better, go ahead and CfD this category for renaming. That said, I think it's a technicality and a dead horse. We divide people from feudal or ancient times by nationality too, despite the same problem (that nationality gets iffy if we travel centuries back). We do the same thing for regular families (see Category:Families by nationality). And note that "XX noble families" are a subcat to "XX families", anyway (ex. Category:Polish noble families is a sub to Polish families, itself a sub to families by nationality. I am glad you agree with me. There might be some cases when nationality can be used as sorting criteria.
