Dissidia Final Fantasy[a] is a fighting game with action RPG elements developed by Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja and published by Square Enix.[1] It was announced during the Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO) trade show in Chiba, Japan on February 14, 2015.[2] The game is based on Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, released for PlayStation Portable. The game was released in Japanese arcades on November 26, 2015.[3] A PlayStation 4 version titled Dissidia Final Fantasy NT[b] was announced shortly before E3 2017 and is scheduled to be released worldwide in early 2018.[4]

Gameplay

Compared to its predecessors, the game's battle system was remade from the ground up. New to the game is the three-on-three combat feature. At launch, the game included all 13 main heroes from the previous Dissidia titles and new character Y’shtola. However, new characters such as Kain Highwind and Ramza Beoulve have continued to be added to the roster as post-launch updates,[5] with the developers targeting a total roster of 50 characters.

Development

In a press conference on April 10, 2015, Sony Computer Entertainment president Atsushi Morita revealed that the game was developed with the core technology of the PlayStation 4. Square Enix said that they wanted to release it for arcades first and the console version would not be available until at least a year after the launch of the arcade version.[6] Additionally, director Takeo Kujiraoka hinted at the possibility of adding Noctis Lucis Caelum to the cast once his game Final Fantasy XV is released.[7] The games director also mentioned the possibility of the game becoming an eSport and being released outside of Japan.[8] In June 2017, a port for the PlayStation 4 titled Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was announced, alongside a release in North America and Europe.[9][10]
