Indian National Pledge

The Indian National Pledge is an oath of allegiance to the Republic of India. It is commonly recited by Indians in unison at public events, especially in schools, and during the Independence Day and Republic Day Celebrations. It is commonly found printed in the opening pages of school textbooks.
The pledge arose from the efforts of the Central Advisory Board in Education in its 31st meeting held on October 10th and 11th, 1964 in Bangalore. The Chairman, M.C. Chagla in his Address, directed that before commencing activities of the day the school pledge, which was earlier crafted by the Emotional Committee of the Board, be read and that this practice be introduced into all schools by 26th January 1965, the next Republic Day.[1]

The pledge was believed to be written by Swami Vivekananda. The Pledge was introduced in many schools in 1963. The Indian National Pledge is commonly recited by Indians in unison at public events, during daily assemblies in many Indian schools, and during the Independence Day and Republic Day Observance Ceremonies.
