[edit] History

Leeenux started as a personal modification of easypeasy. The goal was to free up space on the 4GB SSD that comes with the Asus Eee 4G Surf, also known as the 701G. A saving of 2GB was achieved by replacing applications that used multiple GUI libraries (e.g., QT, KDE, Mono and Java) with GNOME native applications and removing non-free proprietary software. Later versions further in the 1.X series would further reduce the footprint and increase performance.

The next major Leeenux release (v2.0) would focus on improving appearance with custom icon and artwork, and increasing functionality while reducing memory usage.

For v3, the distribution was split into 5 variants with different sets of default applications. By tracking downloads it will be determined what users most want for v4.[citation needed]
