Springettsbury Township is a township in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 26,668 at the 2010 census.[1] The township takes its name from Springett Penn, grandson of Pennsylvania founder William Penn.

History[edit]

The Diamond Silk Mill, Pleasureville Historic District, and Strickler Family Farmhouse are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[2]

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 16.7 square miles (43.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics[edit]

At the 2000 census,[3] there were 23,883 people, 9,230 households and 6,359 families residing in the township. The population density was 1,426.5 per square mile (550.9/km²). There were 9,483 housing units at an average density of 566.4/sq mi (218.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 91.14% White, 4.28% African American, 0.11% Native American, 2.46% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.77% of the population.

There were 9,230 households of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.84.

InAge distribution was 19.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

The median household income in the township was $49,176, and the median family income was $58,502. Males had a median income of $40,692 versus $27,175 for females. The per capita income for the township was $24,608. About 2.7% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 5.4% of those age 65 or over.
