Tense change[edit]

1UP has been dissolved, meaning that all of these shows are non-existent. Please could someone change the tense to reflect this? I'm also suggesting a page title change to reflect the situation. I don't think that this merits deleting this page, because some of these were significant. ∫ A Y 11:51, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to merge 1Up Network into 1Up.com to preserve the edit history and then move the page back to 1Up Network because the name follows standard naming conventions. TipsyElephant (talk) 15:08, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that 1Up.com be merged into 1Up Network because 1Up.com is simply the website for the 1Up Network. GameDeveloper.com appears to use 1Up Network and 1Up.com interchangeably and I can't find any sources indicating that they are separate entities. I don't know of any other examples where a network and its website have separate pages. For instance, crooked.com redirects to Crooked Media, maximumfun.org redirects to Maximum Fun, iheart.com redirects to iHeartRadio. Similarly, URLs for networks such as earwolf.com, gimletmedia.com, wondery.com, and qcodemedia.com don't even exist as redirects let alone a separate page. Zxcvbnm, you deprodded 1Up.com with the comment "Deprod - 1Up Network is a subtopic of this site. Being a formerly major gaming site I feel this needs more discussion per WP:NEXIST", would you mind explaining why you think the 1Up Network is a subtopic of 1Up.com or why you think they deserve separate pages? TipsyElephant (talk) 13:19, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The staff page for 1up.com (here) says, "ever wonder who the people are behind the sites and magazines you love? Here's the 1UP Network Staff Page, where you can find and meet all the people responsible for creating and running all of our 1UP network properties." The fact that the staff page of the website calls itself the 1Up Network and implies that websites and magazines published by the 1Up Network are part of the 1Up Network (not the other way around) indicates to me that 1Up.com and 1Up Network are the same thing or that 1Up.com is a subtopic of 1Up Network. TipsyElephant (talk) 13:28, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support - although the reverse of what you are proposing, since as I alluded to in the deprod, 1Up Network was originally split from the 1Up.com article in 2007 with no discussion or explanation. Even then it was not a merited split in any manner as the resultant article was totally unsourced. If you then believe the article's name should be changed I would not object to an RM proposing a swap style move or a change to some other alternate name. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:31, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Zxcvbnm: so you're okay with merging 1Up Network into 1Up.com and then renaming/moving 1Up.com to 1Up Network? Why exactly? Will that preserve the edit history better or something? TipsyElephant (talk) 12:22, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, exactly that. Having the original edit history on a redirect would not be great, it's better policy to have the oldest version of a page as the main one rather than a split that someone made later. (That said, while I said I am not opposed to it, I still think the name change merits a discussion since the original name of the page was 1Up.com). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:20, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
