Is Ocean Shield commissioned into, or 'merely' operated by the RAN[edit]

STrange you dont mention when the ship was built at all, it seems she was just born from nowhere (norway)[edit]

None of the sources used in the article, or that I've seen, specify when exactly the ship was ordered, or when construction started. If you know of such sources, please provide (although don't get confused with the 2007-laid down Skandi Bergen, which became ACV Ocean Protector, or the subsequent Skandi Bergen ordered as a replacement). -- saberwyn 08:48, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now RAN or Customs/BorderForce?[edit]

The original plan for Ocean Shield to transfer to Customs in 2016, once the two Canberra class LHDs were in service. The last piece of cited information to confirm this was published in 2012. Now, at the end of 2015, the ship is no longer listed on the RAN website (and the link to the ship's page is now "Access Denied"). I assume from this that the transfer has happened (but could be wrong), so does anyone have any recent WP:RS about the status of the ship and its current operator?

Once we have solid confirmation of the transfer, this article will need to be updated, references to Ocean Shield being an active RAN ship will need to be removed from Royal Australian Navy, Australian Defence Force List of active Royal Australian Navy ships, and relevant Customs/BorderForce pages will need to list the ship as active. -- saberwyn 10:17, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Google News doesn't return anything. There's an ABC news story about "ACV Ocean Shield" in February here and the Border Force website also has photos of the ship in Customs livery taken in May 2015 here, so the transfer must have happened a while ago. I'm with you on calling this ship a "cutter"! Nick-D (talk) 10:39, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Lack of news on transfer = on-water matters?
BorderForce seems to be taking the US Coast Guard view that every vessel bigger than a tinnie is a cutter. If only there were sources detailing the change from ACV and its reasoning (see point 1).
On another note, if the CC-BY copyright statement attached to the Immigration Department website holds for the image gallery you just linked to (particularly [1] or [2]), it might be worth acquiring them to illustrate the article andor for Commons. -- saberwyn 11:08, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ABFC Ocean Shield as she is know known was not the Skandi Bergen but the Skandi Bergen II.[edit]

ADV Ocean Protector, currently leased by the RAN is Skandi Bergen. ABFC Ocean Shield was Skandi Bergen II. There are subtle but distinct design changes (interior) between the two vessels.
