Preamble[edit]

It is common for a dab page to start with one or two commonly used senses of the term being disambiguated (MOS:DABORDER "In cases where a small number of main topics are significantly more likely to be the reader's target, several of the most common meanings may be placed at the top, with other meanings below.". That's "placed at the top", not "included in a sentence of prose".) I believe that this version of the dab page is more helpful to more readers than this one: in the latter, mobile app is buried in a sentence of text and is not annotated except as "(more specific)". I see no evidence at Computer program to suggest that anyone searching for "App" means to get to that page. Please discuss. PamD 17:05, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see no evidence that anyone means "mobile app" when he says "app". Nowadays, everything is an "app", a computer program. Particularly, Windows Store does not sell mobile apps at all. Google Apps and Office Web Apps are not mobile apps at all. Mac App Store does not sell mobile apps either. Apper and AppStream don't have anything to do with mobile apps either. I agree, app has meanings beyond mobile app, but app still commonly means a mobile app, and slightly less commonly "application software". Hi. This point of view has a problem: It is analogous to refusing to recognize the players of a FIFA World Cup as humans because there is no Indians among them. Although it is true that apps are never operating system, the term is not restricted to application software only. Except that broad definition is called "computer software". "Application" and "utility" are antonyms.

The 10:28, 11 December 2013 version by PamD is, relative to the 16:21 version by Codename Lisa, easier to understand and navigate quickly. Since DAB pages are navigation aids, not content articles, the earlier version is therefore preferable.
